Programming Guide for 2006 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob – Cadillac XLR
Important Notice: The 2006 Cadillac XLR allows onboard programming of remote fobs using the procedures below. You may program up to four fobs. Two methods are provided—based on whether you have a working transmitter.
Programming with a Recognized Transmitter: Use this method if at least one remote is currently functional:
- Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is completely off.
- Step 2: Keep both the working and new transmitters on your person.
- Step 3: Go to the rear of the vehicle and insert the mechanical key into the lock cylinder located on the lower rear fascia (driver’s side).
- Step 4: Open the trunk and quickly turn the key to the unlock position five times within five seconds.
- Step 5: The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display “READY FOR FOB #2,” or the next available slot.
- Step 6: Insert the new transmitter into the glove box transmitter pocket with the buttons facing to the right.
- Step 7: Wait for the confirmation beep. The DIC will display “READY FOR FOB #3,” “#4,” or “MAX # FOBS LEARNED.”
- Step 8: Press the OFF/ACCESSORY button to exit programming mode.
Programming without a Recognized Transmitter: Use this method if no remotes are currently recognized. This procedure takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.
- Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is turned off.
- Step 2: Insert the new transmitter into the glove box transmitter pocket with the buttons facing right.
- Step 3: Go to the rear of the vehicle and insert the mechanical key into the lock cylinder on the driver’s side rear fascia.
- Step 4: Open the trunk and turn the key to the unlock position five times within five seconds.
- Step 5: The DIC will display “OFF-ACC TO LEARN.”
- Step 6: Press the OFF/ACCESSORY button.
- Step 7: The DIC will display “WAIT 10 MINUTES” and begin a one-minute countdown.
- Step 8: When prompted again, press the OFF/ACCESSORY button a second time.
- Step 9: Wait for the second 10-minute countdown to complete.
- Step 10: Press the OFF/ACCESSORY button a third time when prompted.
- Step 11: Wait for the final 10-minute countdown to finish.
- Step 12: A beep will sound and the DIC will display “READY FOR FOB #1.” At this point, all previously learned transmitters have been cleared.
- Step 13: The inserted transmitter is now programmed. A beep confirms success, and the DIC will display “READY FOR FOB #2.”
- Step 14: To add more remotes, remove the first one and insert the next into the pocket. Repeat as needed for up to four total.
- Step 15: When complete, press the OFF/ACCESSORY button to exit programming mode.
