2006 Mercury Grand Marquis

Programming Guide for 2006 Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard programming for keyless entry remote fobs through a timed ignition cycle process. All remotes must be programmed during the same session. Any remote not included during the procedure will no longer function until reprogrammed.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Sit in the vehicle with all doors closed. Make sure you have all remote fobs with you before starting the procedure.
  • Step 2: Insert the ignition key into the ignition switch, but do not start the engine.
  • Step 3: Within 10 seconds, turn the ignition key from the OFF position to the RUN position eight times, ending in the RUN position on the eighth cycle. Perform this step smoothly and rapidly.
  • Step 4: The door locks will automatically lock and unlock, confirming that the vehicle has entered programming mode.
  • Step 5: Within 20 seconds, press any button on the first remote fob. The door locks will cycle again to confirm the remote has been successfully programmed.
  • Step 6: If programming a second remote, press any button on it within 20 seconds of the previous remote. The locks will cycle again to confirm successful registration.
  • Step 7: Repeat Step 6 for each additional remote, ensuring that each one is programmed within 20 seconds of the last.
  • Step 8: After all remotes have been programmed, turn the ignition to the OFF position. The door locks will cycle one final time to indicate the end of programming mode.
  • Step 9: Remove the key and test all remotes to verify that the lock and unlock functions are operating as expected.
  • Step 10: If any remote fails to operate, repeat the entire procedure from Step 1, ensuring proper timing and battery condition.

Additional Considerations: Program all remotes in a single session. Any that are not programmed during this session will no longer function. Timing is essential. Delays between ignition cycles or remote inputs can cause the system to exit programming mode prematurely. Check battery strength in all remotes prior to starting. Weak or depleted batteries may cause communication failures.
