2006 Subaru Tribeca Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Note: This vehicle features a remote programming mode that must be completed in a specific sequence within a limited timeframe. Carefully review all steps before beginning to ensure success.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat and confirm that all doors, including the rear gate or trunk, are fully closed.
  • Step 2: Open and close the driver’s door once.
  • Step 3: Within 45 seconds, open and close the driver’s door again.
  • Step 4: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it from the ""LOCK"" to ""ON"" position (do not start the engine) ten times within 15 seconds. If done correctly, a single chime will sound, a buzzer will remain active, and the interior light will begin flashing—indicating that the system has entered programming mode. If this response does not occur, the process must be restarted from Step 3.
  • Step 5: Within 45 seconds, open and close the driver’s door again. A confirmation tone will sound for 30 seconds. You must proceed to the next step before this tone ends.
  • Step 6: Using the driver’s side power door lock switch, press the “LOCK” side the number of times that corresponds to the first digit of your remote’s 8-digit code. For example, if the first digit is 6, press “LOCK” six times.
  • Step 7: Once finished with that digit, press the “UNLOCK” side of the switch once to move to the next digit.
  • Step 8: Repeat the above process (Step 6 and Step 7) for each of the remaining seven digits of your code. After the final (eighth) digit is entered, press the “UNLOCK” side one more time.
  • Step 9: Immediately repeat Steps 6 through 8 to re-enter the entire 8-digit code a second time. The system requires the code to be confirmed for security purposes.
  • Step 10: If the code is accepted, a tone will sound for 30 seconds. If this tone does not occur, or if it stops early, an error has occurred. Restart the process from Step 3. Error Handling: If more than five seconds pass between button presses, the system will cancel the programming sequence. If the second code entry does not match the first, the procedure will fail. If an error occurs six times, the system must be restarted from the beginning (Step 3). Additional Remotes: Up to four remotes can be stored in the system. To program an additional fob, repeat Steps 4 through 9 for each remote. All remotes must be programmed in the same session. Final Step:
  • Step 11: Once all remotes have been programmed, remove the key from the ignition. Test each remote to verify that locking, unlocking, and system response functions operate as expected.
