2006 Toyota 4Runner Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
For Vehicles with Factory Keyless Entry System
Important Note: This procedure enables programming of one or more remote fobs. Timing is critical—if any step is delayed, the process must be restarted from the beginning.
Step-by-Step Procedure:
- Step 1: Prepare the Vehicle Remove the key from the ignition. Make sure the driver’s door is open and unlocked. Ensure all other doors are closed.
- Step 2: Key Insertion Sequence (within 5 seconds)
- A) Insert the key into the ignition without turning it, then remove it.
- B) Repeat: Insert the key again (do not turn), then remove it.
- Step 3: Driver Door Operation (within 40 seconds)
- A) Close the driver’s door, then open it.
- B) Close and open the door once more.
- C) Insert the key into the ignition (do not turn), then remove it.
- Step 4: Final Setup Sequence (within 40 seconds)
- A) Close and open the driver’s door again.
- B) Repeat: close and open the door once more.
- C) Insert the key into the ignition and leave it inserted.
- D) Close the driver’s door.
- E) Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine), then turn it back to OFF.
- F) Remove the key from the ignition.
- Step 5: Enter Programming Mode Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should automatically lock and then unlock to confirm entry into programming mode. If the locks do not cycle, return to Step 1 and repeat the procedure.
- Step 6: Program the Remote(s) (within 40 seconds)
- A) Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote simultaneously for 1.5 seconds.
- B) Release both buttons, then press and hold the LOCK button alone for 2 seconds. If the door locks cycle once, programming was successful. If the locks cycle twice, the remote was not accepted. Repeat Step 6A and 6B.
- C) Repeat the process for each additional remote fob.
- Step 7: Complete the Process Open the driver’s door to exit programming mode. Test all remotes to ensure they are functioning properly.
