Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Guide for the 2006 Toyota Highlander
Important Notice: Onboard programming is not supported for the 2006 model's keyless entry remote fobs. This task requires specialized equipment and must be performed by a certified professional.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Preparation Ensure the key is not in the ignition. Open the driver's door, ensuring all other doors are closed and the driver's door is unlocked.
- Step 2: Key Insertion Within 5 seconds, perform the following: Insert the key into the ignition and immediately remove it without turning. Repeat the insertion and removal of the key.
- Step 3: Door Handling Within the next 40 seconds, execute the following: Close and then open the driver's door twice. Insert the key into the ignition and remove it again without turning.
- Step 4: Key and Door Synchronization Continue within 40 seconds: Close and open the driver’s door twice. Leave the key in the ignition. Close the driver's door.
- Step 5: Activate Programming Mode Within 40 seconds: Turn the ignition to ON (do not start the engine) and then switch it back to OFF. Remove the key from the ignition.
- Step 6: Confirm Programming Mode Within 3 seconds, check if the vehicle's door locks automatically lock and then unlock, indicating successful entry into programming mode. If the locks do not cycle, restart the procedure from Step 1.
- Step 7: Remote Fob Programming Within 40 seconds: Press and hold both the lock and unlock buttons on the remote simultaneously for 1.5 seconds. Immediately release the buttons and then press and hold the lock button for 2 seconds. The door locks should cycle once to confirm successful programming. If they cycle twice, repeat this step as the remote was not accepted.
- Step 8: Programming Additional Remotes If additional remotes are to be programmed, repeat Step 7 for each new remote within 40 seconds of the last.
- Step 9: Finalization Open the driver’s door to exit the programming mode and complete the process.
Additional Considerations:
- Presence of All Remotes: Ensure that all existing remote fobs are available during programming as they may require simultaneous reprogramming. Professional Expertise: Verify that the technician has experience with your specific model's smart key system to prevent programming errors. Manufacturer Resources: For comprehensive programming instructions and further assistance, refer to the vehicle’s owner’s manual or contact an authorized service center.
