Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions for the 2006 Toyota Matrix
Important Notice: The 2006 Toyota Matrix supports onboard programming for keyless entry remote fobs. Follow the detailed steps below to program one or more remotes using the vehicle’s built-in system.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Begin with the key completely removed from the ignition. Ensure the driver’s door is open, all other doors are closed, and the driver’s door is unlocked.
- Step 2: Within 5 seconds, complete the following actions: Insert the key into the ignition (do not turn), then remove it. Insert the key into the ignition again (do not turn), then remove it.
- Step 3: Within 40 seconds, continue with the following: Close and then open the driver’s door. Close and then open the driver’s door again. Insert the key into the ignition (do not turn), then remove it.
- Step 4: Within the next 40 seconds, perform these steps: Close and then open the driver’s door. Close and then open the driver’s door again. Insert the key into the ignition and leave it there. Close the driver’s door. Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine), then return it to OFF. Remove the key from the ignition.
- Step 5: Within 3 seconds, the door locks should automatically cycle—locking and unlocking once—to confirm the vehicle has entered programming mode. If the locks do not cycle, restart from Step 1.
- Step 6: Within 40 seconds, program the remote by completing the following actions: Press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote at the same time for 1.5 seconds. Immediately release both buttons, then press and hold the LOCK button alone for 2 seconds. The door locks should lock and then unlock once to confirm the remote has been successfully programmed. If the locks cycle twice, the remote was not accepted—repeat Step 6.
- Step 7: Repeat Step 6 for each additional remote you wish to program (up to four total).
- Step 8: Open the driver’s door to exit programming mode.
