Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Guide – 2006 Toyota Sienna
Important Notice: These instructions apply to vehicles equipped with a standard key ignition and a factory keyless entry system. Timing is critical—each action must be performed within the stated limits for successful programming.
Programming Procedure
- Step 1: Initial Vehicle Setup Remove the key from the ignition. Ensure the driver’s door is open, all other doors are closed, and the driver’s door is unlocked. Sit in the driver’s seat to begin the procedure.
- Step 2: Key Insertions (Must Be Completed Within 5 Seconds) A. Insert the key into the ignition without turning it, then remove it. B. Repeat: Insert the key again, do not turn, then remove it. Both actions must be done within 5 seconds.
- Step 3: Door Actions and Key Insert (Must Be Completed Within 40 Seconds) A. Fully close and open the driver’s door. B. Repeat: Close and open the driver’s door again. C. Insert the key into the ignition once more without turning it, then remove it.
- Step 4: Final Preparation to Enter Programming Mode (Must Be Completed Within 40 Seconds) A. Fully close and open the driver’s door. B. Repeat: Close and open the driver’s door again. C. Insert the key into the ignition and leave it inserted. D. Close the driver’s door. E. Turn the key to the ON position (do not start the engine), then return it to OFF. F. Remove the key from the ignition.
- Step 5: Confirm Entry into Programming Mode Within 3 seconds, the door locks should lock and then unlock automatically. This indicates the vehicle has entered programming mode. If the locks do not cycle, restart the process from Step 1 and check timing accuracy. Remote Programming Procedure (Must Be Completed Within 40 Seconds Per Remote)
- Step 6: Program Each Remote A. On the remote, press and hold the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously for 1.5 seconds, then release both. B. Immediately press and hold the lock button alone for 2 seconds, then release. C. Within 3 seconds, the door locks should lock and then unlock once, confirming successful programming. If the locks cycle twice, the remote was not accepted. Repeat steps A and B. D. Repeat steps A through C for each additional remote you wish to program (up to the system’s maximum capacity).
- Step 7: Exit Programming Mode Open the driver’s door to complete the process and exit programming mode. Test each remote to confirm that all functions work correctly.
Additional Notes & Tips Program All Remotes Together:
- Any remotes not included during this session will no longer function and must be reprogrammed. System Capacity: Most systems can store up to four remotes. Programming a new remote beyond this limit may overwrite a previous one. Check Remote Batteries: Weak or depleted batteries can prevent successful programming. Use fresh batteries before beginning. Maintain Consistent Timing: Delays in any step may cancel the process. If that happens, start again from Step 1. Test Before Use: After programming, check each remote’s lock, unlock, and panic functions (if equipped) to ensure successful pairing.
