Programming Instructions for 2007 Mazda CX-9
Flip Key Remote • Transponder Key • Smart Key
Section 1: Programming the Remote (Lock/Unlock) Portion of the Flip Key This procedure activates the remote functions (lock and unlock) for flip keys. Ensure timing is followed precisely.
- Step 1: Open the driver’s door and leave it open during the entire procedure.
- Step 2: Use the power lock switch on the door to lock and then unlock the driver’s door.
- Step 3: Insert the key into the ignition.
- Step 4: Turn the key from OFF to ON and back to OFF three times within 10 seconds. After the third cycle, leave the key in the OFF position.
- Step 5: Close and open the driver’s door three times. Leave it open after the third cycle.
- Step 6: The system will respond by locking and unlocking the doors once, indicating that programming mode is active.
- Step 7: Press any button on the first remote twice. The doors will lock and unlock to confirm programming success.
- Step 8: Repeat Step 7 for up to two additional remotes (maximum of three).
- Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition. The system will complete the process with a final series of approximately four lock/unlock cycles.
Section 2: Programming the Transponder (Ignition) Portion of the Flip Key This process programs the ignition chip inside a new key. You will need two previously programmed transponder keys to perform the procedure.
Note: The new key must be properly cut to turn in the ignition switch. Review all steps before beginning, as timing is essential.
- Step 1: Insert the first working key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position. Wait at least one second (until the red key icon turns off), then remove the key.
- Step 2: Within five seconds, insert the second working key and turn it to the ON position for at least one second but no more than five seconds. Then remove it.
- Step 3: Within ten seconds, insert the new key and turn it to the ON position.
If successful: The red key warning light will turn on briefly and then go out after one second.
If unsuccessful: The red key light will flash continuously. Remove the key, wait at least one minute, and try again.
Section 3: Programming a Smart Key (If Equipped) The smart key system in the 2007 Mazda CX-9 cannot be programmed using onboard steps. Professional tools are required for registration.
