2007 Mercury Montego

Programming Guide for 2007 Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard programming of keyless entry remote fobs through a timed ignition cycle. To successfully program remotes, all fobs must be present and programmed during the same session. Any remote not included during this process will be removed from memory and will no longer function until reprogrammed.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat with all vehicle doors fully closed. Have all remote fobs ready before starting the procedure.
  • Step 2: Insert the ignition key into the ignition switch. Do not start the engine.
  • Step 3: Within 10 seconds, turn the ignition from the OFF position to the RUN position eight times, ending in the RUN position on the eighth cycle. Perform this step quickly and smoothly.
  • Step 4: After the eighth turn, the door locks will automatically lock and then unlock, confirming that the vehicle has entered programming mode.
  • Step 5: Within 20 seconds, press any button on the first remote fob. The door locks will cycle again to confirm that the remote has been successfully programmed.
  • Step 6: If you have a second remote, press any button on it within 20 seconds of programming the previous remote. The locks will cycle again to confirm successful registration.
  • Step 7: Repeat Step 6 for any additional remotes, ensuring that each one is programmed within 20 seconds of the previous.
  • Step 8: Once all remotes are programmed, turn the ignition to the OFF position.
  • Step 9: The door locks will cycle one final time, confirming the system has exited programming mode.
  • Step 10: Remove the key from the ignition and test each remote to ensure the lock and unlock functions are working properly.
  • Step 11: If any remote fails to function, repeat the full procedure from Step 1, making sure each step is completed within the required time limits.

Additional Considerations: Program all remotes in the same session. Any remote not included during the process will be deactivated. Precise timing is essential. Ignition cycles and button presses must occur within the specified time frames for the system to accept the input. Check battery power in each remote prior to programming to ensure proper communication with the vehicle.
