2007 Subaru Legacy Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Notice: The 2007 Subaru Legacy supports onboard programming for its keyless entry remote fobs. This procedure works for both separate remotes and remote-head keys (keys with a built-in remote). If you don't succeed on your first attempt, the process can be repeated as many times as needed.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Determine the type of remote you have: Separate Remote: Use a flathead screwdriver to carefully remove the back cover. Remote-Head Key: Use a small Phillips screwdriver to unscrew and remove the back panel.
  • Step 2: Inside the remote, locate the 8-digit ID number. If two rows of characters are present, select the row that contains only numbers. Write this number down for later use. Note: For remote-head keys, this procedure will only program the remote functions. The physical key must be cut and the built-in transponder must be programmed separately by a dealer or qualified technician in order to start the vehicle.
  • Step 3: Make sure all doors and the trunk or liftgate are completely closed.
  • Step 4: Sit in the driver’s seat, close the driver’s door, and proceed immediately to the next step.
  • Step 5: Insert the key into the ignition. Quickly turn the key from the LOCK to the ON position (do not start the engine) ten times within 15 seconds. If successful, the exterior lights will flash and a tone will sound, confirming that the vehicle has entered programming mode. If you do not see the lights flash or hear the tone, exit the vehicle and restart the procedure.
  • Step 6: Open and close the driver’s door one time. The confirmation tone should continue, indicating the system remains in programming mode.
  • Step 7: Using the driver’s door lock switch, enter the 8-digit ID code as follows: Press the Lock button the number of times equal to the first digit of your code. Press the Unlock button once to move to the next digit. Repeat this process for all eight digits. After entering the final digit, press the Unlock button once more to complete the sequence.
  • Step 8: Repeat Step 7 using the same 8-digit code a second time. Once the full code is entered again, the vehicle will emit a 30-second confirmation tone.
  • Step 9: To program additional remotes, repeat Steps 5 through 8 for each remote individually.
  • Step 10: When all remotes are programmed, remove the key from the ignition. The process is now complete.
