2007 Subaru Outback Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Notice: The 2007 Subaru Outback supports onboard programming for keyless entry remotes. This procedure uses an 8-digit identification code found inside the remote fob. Depending on your remote type, this process may program either just the remote or both the remote and transponder separately: Separate Remote: This procedure fully programs the remote. Remote Head Key: This process only programs the remote functions. The key blade must be cut, and the chip inside the key must be programmed separately by a technician for the vehicle to start. Before beginning, open the remote and write down the 8-digit numeric code (do not use letters). You'll need this to complete programming.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Prepare the remote: Use a flat screwdriver to open a separate remote, or Use a small Phillips screwdriver to unscrew a remote head key.
  • Step 2: Locate the 8-digit number inside the remote and write it down. Only use the row that contains numbers—ignore any letters.
  • Step 3: Ensure all doors, including the trunk or liftgate, are closed.
  • Step 4: Sit in the driver’s seat and close the door.
  • Step 5: Turn the ignition key from LOCK to ON (dash lights on, do not start the engine), then back to LOCK—ten times within 15 seconds. If done correctly, the vehicle will flash the hazard lights and emit a tone. This confirms it is in programming mode. If you do not see the lights or hear the tone, exit the vehicle and begin again from Step 4.
  • Step 6: Open and close the driver’s door once to keep the system in programming mode. The audible tone will continue. Entering the Remote Code
  • Step 7: Using the power door lock switch on the driver’s door panel, enter the 8-digit code: Press the LOCK button the number of times that matches the first digit. Press the UNLOCK button once to move to the next digit. Repeat this process for all eight digits. After entering the final digit, press the UNLOCK button once more to complete the sequence.
  • Step 8: Repeat the exact same code a second time using the same method. When the final digit is entered correctly, the system will emit a 30-second confirmation tone. If the code is entered incorrectly or if any delay exceeds five seconds, the system will cancel the session. Restart from Step 5 if needed. Finalizing Programming
  • Step 9: If you have additional remotes to program, repeat Steps 5 through 8 for each one individually.
  • Step 10: When you are finished programming, remove the key from the ignition. The system will exit programming mode automatically.
