2007 Toyota Tacoma Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Guide
Important Notice: These instructions are intended for vehicles equipped with a factory-installed keyless entry system. The programming sequence must be followed precisely, and all steps must be completed within the specified time limits. If any step is delayed, the process will cancel and must be restarted.
Programming Procedure
- Step 1: Prepare the Vehicle Ensure the key is out of the ignition. The driver’s door must be open and unlocked. All other doors must remain closed.
- Step 2: Initial Key Insertion – Complete Within 5 Seconds A. Insert the key into the ignition (do not turn), then remove it. B. Repeat: insert the key into the ignition (do not turn), then remove it again. This step should be performed smoothly and within 5 seconds.
- Step 3: First Door Cycle – Complete Within 40 Seconds A. Close and reopen the driver’s door. B. Repeat: close and reopen the driver’s door a second time. C. Insert the key into the ignition (do not turn), then remove it.
- Step 4: Final Setup Sequence – Complete Within 40 Seconds A. Close and reopen the driver’s door. B. Repeat: close and reopen the door again. C. Insert the key into the ignition and leave it inserted. D. Close the driver’s door completely. E. Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine), then back to OFF. F. Remove the key from the ignition.
- Step 5: Confirm Programming Mode Entry Within 3 seconds of removing the key: The power door locks should lock and then unlock once. This confirms the vehicle has entered remote programming mode. If the locks do not cycle, restart from Step 1. Programming Remote Transmitters
- Step 6: Program Each Remote – Complete Within 40 Seconds per Remote A. Simultaneously press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote for 1.5 seconds. B. Release both buttons, then press and hold the LOCK button alone for 2 seconds. C. Wait for the door locks to lock and unlock once. This confirms successful programming. If the locks cycle twice, the remote was not accepted. Repeat Step 6.
- Step 7: Add Additional Remotes (if needed) Repeat Step 6 for each remote you wish to program. Up to four remotes can be registered during one programming session.
- Step 8: Exit Programming Mode Open the driver’s door to exit the programming process. The vehicle will now return to normal operation.
- Final Testing Step 9: Verify Remote Operation Test each remote outside the vehicle to confirm functionality: Lock and unlock buttons Panic alarm (if equipped) Tailgate release (if applicable)
