Programming Guide for 2008 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob – CTS

(Smart Key System Only)

If You Have One Working Remote: You can add additional remotes if at least one smart fob is currently recognized by the vehicle.

  • Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is turned off.
  • Step 2: Place the working remote(s) in the front cupholder. Keep the new remote nearby.
  • Step 3: Insert the mechanical key into the driver’s door lock cylinder.
  • Step 4: Turn the key to the unlock position five times within five seconds.
  • Step 5: The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display: “Ready to Learn Electronic Key #2, 3, or 4.”
  • Step 6: Insert the new remote into the transmitter pocket with the buttons facing the front of the vehicle. (The transmitter pocket is located inside the center console between the front seats.)
  • Step 7: A chime will sound when the remote is accepted. The DIC will display: “Ready to Learn Electronic Key #3 or 4,” or “Maximum Number of Electronic Keys Learned.”
  • Step 8: Press the ignition knob once to exit programming mode.
  • Step 9: Remove the newly programmed remote from the transmitter pocket and press the unlock button twice to confirm functionality.
  • Step 10: To program more remotes, repeat Steps 6 through 9 for each one.

If No Working Remotes Are Available: Use this method to initialize new remotes when all previously programmed fobs have been lost or are unavailable.

  • Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is off.
  • Step 2: Place the new remote into the transmitter pocket with the buttons facing forward. (Transmitter pocket is located in the center console between the driver and passenger seats.)
  • Step 3: Insert the key into the driver’s door lock cylinder.
  • Step 4: Turn the key to the unlock position five times within five seconds.
  • Step 5: The DIC will display: “Ready to Learn Keys.”
  • Step 6: Press the ignition switch.
  • Step 7: The DIC will read: “Learn Delay Active — Wait XX Minutes,” and begin a countdown.
  • Step 8: When prompted, press the ignition switch again.
  • Step 9: Repeat the countdown and press the ignition a second time when prompted.
  • Step 10: Repeat this sequence a third time.
  • Step 11: After the final cycle, a chime will sound and the DIC will read: “Ready to Learn Electronic Key #1.” (At this stage, all previous remote fob pairings are erased.)
  • Step 12: Once the remote is accepted, a second chime will sound and the DIC will advance to “Ready to Learn Electronic Key #2.”
  • Step 13: To add more remotes, insert each additional fob into the transmitter pocket. After each is learned, the DIC will display the next available key number.
  • Step 14: When four remotes have been programmed, the system will display: “Maximum Number of Electronic Keys Learned,” and exit programming mode.
  • Step 15: Press the ignition knob to complete the session.
  • Step 16: Press the unlock button on each newly programmed remote to verify functionality.
