Programming Guide for 2008 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob – CTS-V
(Includes Instructions for Systems With and Without a Working Remote)
Important Notice: This model supports onboard programming only for vehicles equipped with a smart key system. If your CTS-V uses a traditional key setup, remote programming must be performed by a qualified technician using diagnostic equipment.
Programming When a Working Remote is Available: Use this procedure to add a new remote when at least one remote is already programmed and functional.
- Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is turned off.
- Step 2: Place your working remote(s) in the front cupholder. Have the new remote ready.
- Step 3: Insert the vehicle key into the driver-side exterior door lock.
- Step 4: Turn the key to the unlock position five times quickly, within five seconds.
- Step 5: Watch the Driver Information Center (DIC); it will display “Ready to Learn Electronic Key #2,” “#3,” or “#4.”
- Step 6: Open the center console, remove the rubber insert, and place the new remote in the transmitter pocket with the buttons facing forward.
- Step 7: A chime will sound to confirm successful programming. The DIC will advance to the next remote number or display “Maximum # Electronic Keys Learned.”
- Step 8: Press the ignition knob to exit programming mode.
- Step 9: Remove the remote from the pocket and press the unlock button twice.
- Step 10: To add more remotes, repeat Steps 6 through 9 for each additional device.
Programming Without a Working Remote: Use this method if no previously programmed remotes are available.
- Step 1: Verify that the vehicle is turned off.
- Step 2: Place the new remote in the transmitter pocket (located under the cupholder in the center console).
- Step 3: Insert the key into the exterior driver-side door lock.
- Step 4: Turn the key to the unlock position five times in under five seconds.
- Step 5: The DIC will display “Ready to Learn Keys.”
- Step 6: Press the ignition switch once.
- Step 7: The DIC will show “Learn Delay Active, Wait XX Min” and begin a countdown.
- Step 8: Once prompted again, press the ignition switch a second time.
- Step 9: Repeat Steps 7 and 8 once more.
- Step 10: After the final countdown, the DIC will read “Ready to Learn Electronic Key #1.” All previously programmed remotes will be erased.
- Step 11: A beep will confirm successful programming of the first key.
- Step 12: The DIC will now display “Ready to Learn Electronic Key #2.”
- Step 13: To add additional remotes, place each transmitter into the pocket until a beep confirms its programming. The DIC will advance to the next number with each successful remote.
- Step 14: When the system reaches its limit, the DIC will display “Maximum # Electronic Keys Learned” and automatically exit programming mode.
- Step 15: Press the ignition switch to finalize the process.
- Step 16: Press the unlock button on each newly programmed remote to confirm functionality.
