Programming Guide for 2008 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob – Cadillac XLR

Important Notice: Your 2008 Cadillac XLR supports onboard programming of up to four smart key remotes. You may program a new transmitter either with or without a currently recognized remote.

Programming with a Recognized Transmitter: Use this procedure when at least one remote is already paired with the vehicle:

  • Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is completely turned off.
  • Step 2: Have both the recognized remote and the new unprogrammed remote with you.
  • Step 3: Go to the rear of the vehicle and insert the mechanical key into the lock cylinder located on the lower rear fascia (driver’s side).
  • Step 4: Open the trunk and turn the key to the unlock position five times within five seconds.
  • Step 5: The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display “READY FOR FOB #X,” where X indicates the next available remote slot.
  • Step 6: Insert the new remote into the glove box transmitter pocket with the buttons facing to the right.
  • Step 7: A confirmation beep will sound once the remote is successfully programmed. The DIC will update to the next available slot or show “MAX # FOBS LEARNED.”
  • Step 8: Press the OFF/ACCESSORY button to exit programming mode.

Programming without a Recognized Transmitter: Use this method if no functional remote is currently available. This process takes approximately 30 minutes to complete:

  • Step 1: Make sure the vehicle is off.
  • Step 2: Insert the unprogrammed transmitter into the glove box transmitter pocket with the buttons facing to the right.
  • Step 3: Move to the rear of the vehicle and insert the mechanical key into the driver-side lock cylinder located on the lower rear fascia.
  • Step 4: Open the trunk and turn the key to the unlock position five times within five seconds.
  • Step 5: The DIC will display “OFF-ACC TO LEARN.”
  • Step 6: Press the OFF/ACCESSORY button.
  • Step 7: The DIC will begin a countdown: “WAIT 10 MINUTES.”
  • Step 8: When prompted again, press the OFF/ACCESSORY button.
  • Step 9: The countdown repeats. Wait until the timer reaches zero.
  • Step 10: Press the OFF/ACCESSORY button once more when instructed.
  • Step 11: Wait for the final 10-minute countdown to finish.
  • Step 12: A beep will sound and the DIC will read “READY FOR FOB #1.” All previously programmed remotes have been erased.
  • Step 13: The remote in the glove box pocket is now programmed. A beep confirms completion, and the DIC displays “READY FOR FOB #2.”
  • Step 14: To program additional remotes, replace the first remote with another and repeat.
  • Step 15: Continue until up to four remotes are programmed. When complete, the DIC will display “MAX # FOBS LEARNED” and automatically exit the programming mode.
  • Step 16: Press the OFF/ACCESSORY button once more to finalize the process.
