Programming Guide for 2008 Integrated Keyless Entry Remote Fob (Keyhead Transmitter)

Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard key programming only if you have two previously programmed ignition keys. The new key must be unprogrammed, compatible, and include an integrated keyless entry remote (keyhead transmitter). If fewer than two working keys are available, this procedure will not work. Follow the steps and timing exactly for successful programming.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Gather the following before starting: Two working, previously programmed ignition keys One new unprogrammed key with integrated remote All keys inside the vehicle
  • Step 2: Sit in the driver’s seat with all doors closed and ensure no interruptions will occur during the procedure.
  • Step 3: Insert the first programmed key into the ignition switch.
  • Step 4: Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine). Keep it in the ON position for at least 3 seconds but no more than 10 seconds.
  • Step 5: Turn the ignition to the OFF position and remove the key.
  • Step 6: Wait at least 3 seconds but no more than 10 seconds before continuing.
  • Step 7: Insert the second programmed key into the ignition.
  • Step 8: Turn the ignition to the ON position. Hold it for at least 3 seconds but no more than 10 seconds.
  • Step 9: Turn the ignition to the OFF position and remove the second key.
  • Step 10: Wait at least 3 seconds but no more than 10 seconds after removing the key.
  • Step 11: Insert the new, unprogrammed key into the ignition switch.
  • Step 12: Turn the ignition to the ON position and keep it in that position for at least 6 seconds. This allows the system to register the new key.
  • Step 13: Turn the ignition OFF and remove the newly programmed key.
  • Step 14: Wait a few seconds, then insert the newly programmed key and attempt to start the engine.
  • Step 15: Test the lock and unlock buttons on the keyhead transmitter to verify the remote entry functions are working.
  • Step 16: If the engine does not start or the remote buttons do not respond, wait 10 seconds and repeat the procedure from Step 3.

Additional Considerations: Both programmed keys must be fully recognized by the system before the vehicle will accept a new key. Timing is critical throughout this procedure. Delays longer than 10 seconds between steps may cause the programming to fail. Do not attempt to start the engine during the process—use the ON position only. Ensure the new key's battery is in working condition, especially for remote functions.
