2008 Subaru Forester Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Notes: You can program up to four remote key fobs during one session. If the vehicle is equipped with an alarm system, disable it before beginning. Each remote fob requires its unique 8-digit ID code, found on the original packaging (if new) or printed inside the remote case (if used). Have this code ready before starting.
Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Open the driver’s door, enter the vehicle, and close the door securely. Make sure all other doors and the liftgate are also closed.
- Step 2: Within 15 seconds, insert the key into the ignition and turn it from the LOCK to the ON position and back again ten times quickly. Do not start the engine. After the tenth cycle, you should hear a single confirmation chime, followed by a continuous tone and flashing from the interior light—indicating the system has entered programming mode. If the continuous tone and flashing stop prematurely, an error has occurred. Close the driver’s door and start again from Step 1.
- Step 3: Within 45 seconds, open and close the driver’s door once. The system will emit a tone prompting you to begin entering the remote’s ID code.
- Step 4: Press the LOCK button on the driver’s door panel the same number of times as the first digit of the remote’s 8-digit ID code.
- Step 5: Press the UNLOCK button to confirm that digit and move to the next.
- Step 6: Repeat Steps 4 and 5 to enter the remaining digits of the ID code in order from left to right.
- Step 7: After entering all eight digits, repeat the same ID code entry process a second time for verification.
- Step 8: Once the code is correctly repeated, a confirmation chime will sound, indicating the remote has been successfully programmed.
- Step 9: To program another remote, repeat Steps 3 through 8 for each additional remote fob.
- Step 10: When complete, test all programmed remotes to ensure that locking, unlocking, and alarm functions operate properly.
