2008 Subaru Tribeca Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Notice: This model supports onboard programming for remote fobs using a coded input procedure. Please read through the full instructions before beginning. Timing is critical, and all steps must be performed quickly and in sequence.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat. Ensure that all doors, including the rear gate or trunk, are closed securely.
- Step 2: Open and close the driver’s door one time.
- Step 3: Within 45 seconds of completing Step 2, open and close the driver’s door again.
- Step 4: Insert the key into the ignition. Turn the key from the “LOCK” position to “ON” (do not start the engine) ten times within 15 seconds. After the 10th cycle, a single chime should sound. A buzzer will then remain active, and the interior light will flash continuously. This confirms the vehicle is in programming mode. If the chime, buzzer, or light do not activate, restart the procedure from Step 3. Code Entry (Within 45 Seconds):
- Step 5: Open and close the driver’s door once again. An electronic tone will sound for 30 seconds. Begin the next step before this tone ends.
- Step 6: Using the driver’s side door lock switch, enter the 8-digit transmitter code: Press the LOCK side of the switch the number of times equal to the first digit of the code. Press UNLOCK once to move to the next digit. Repeat this sequence for each digit of the 8-digit code. After entering all 8 digits, press UNLOCK once.
- Step 7: Repeat the entire 8-digit code again using the same procedure. Both entries must match exactly. If the second code entry does not match the first, the programming will fail. Confirmation:
- Step 8: After the second entry is completed and accepted, you will hear a confirmation tone that lasts 30 seconds. If the tone does not sound, the procedure failed. Start over from Step 3. Error Handling: If more than 5 seconds pass between any button presses, the system will exit programming mode. If more than 6 total errors occur, you must restart from Step 3. If someone else uses a remote nearby during this process, their transmitter code could be unintentionally stored. Programming Additional Remotes: Up to four remotes can be stored in the system. To add another remote, repeat Steps 4 through 7 for each additional fob within the same session. Final Step:
- Step 9: After all remotes have been programmed, remove the key from the ignition. The system will exit programming mode.
- Step 10: Test all remotes by locking and unlocking the vehicle doors to ensure successful programming.
