If a fifth remote is programmed, all previously stored remotes will be erased. Any time a new remote is programmed, all remotes must be reprogrammed during the same session. Have all remotes ready before starting.
Smart Key Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Close all doors.
- Step 2: Sit in the driver’s seat and ensure the driver’s door is unlocked.
- Step 3: Insert the key into the ignition switch.
- Step 4: Complete the following actions within 25 seconds of inserting the key: A) Press the power door lock switch to LOCK, then to UNLOCK. B) Repeat this lock/unlock action two more times. C) Press the switch once more to LOCK. D) Remove the key from the ignition, then reinsert it. E) Repeat this remove/insert step three additional times. F) Turn the key to the START position and allow the engine to run for 3 seconds. G) Proceed to Step 5 within 60 seconds of starting the engine. If you do not complete Steps 4A–F within 25 seconds, or do not proceed to Step 5 within 60 seconds of engine start, the process will fail and must be restarted.
- Step 5: Turn the ignition to the LOCK position. A buzzer will sound twice, and the door locks will automatically cycle from lock to unlock to confirm entry into programming mode.
- Step 6: Press any button (LOCK, UNLOCK, or PANIC) on the remote. The buzzer will sound twice and the door locks will cycle to confirm successful programming. To program additional remotes, repeat this step with each remote within 30 seconds.
- Step 7: To finish, either remove the key from the ignition or turn the ignition to the ON position.
- Step 8: Test each remote to ensure the keyless entry and keyless start systems function properly. If any remote does not operate as expected, repeat the procedure from the beginning.
Security Tip:
- If a remote has been lost, it is recommended to erase all stored codes by programming a new remote. This will automatically clear any previous codes from the system. Remember to reprogram all remaining remotes during the same session, as only remotes added at that time will remain functional.
