Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Guide – 2008 Toyota Sienna

Important Notice: These instructions are for vehicles equipped with a traditional ignition key and a factory keyless entry system. Timing and step accuracy are essential—delays or incorrect actions may cause the process to fail.

Programming Procedure

  • Step 1: Prepare the Vehicle Remove the key from the ignition. Ensure the driver’s door is open, all other doors are closed, and the driver’s door is unlocked. Sit in the driver’s seat and be ready to perform the steps quickly.
  • Step 2: Initial Key Insertions (Complete Within 5 Seconds) A. Insert the key into the ignition without turning, then remove it. B. Repeat: insert the key again without turning, then remove it. Complete both insertions within 5 seconds.
  • Step 3: Door Actions and Key Insert (Complete Within 40 Seconds) A. Close and then open the driver’s door. B. Repeat: close and open the driver’s door again. C. Insert the key into the ignition without turning, then remove it.
  • Step 4: Final Programming Entry Actions (Complete Within 40 Seconds) A. Close and open the driver’s door again. B. Repeat once more: close and open the driver’s door. C. Insert the key into the ignition and leave it inserted. D. Close the driver’s door completely. E. Turn the ignition key to the ON position (do not start the engine), then turn it back to OFF. F. Remove the key from the ignition.
  • Step 5: Confirm Programming Mode Entry Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should lock and then unlock automatically. This confirms that the vehicle has entered remote programming mode. If the locks do not cycle, restart the process from Step 1, ensuring all actions are timed correctly.
  • Step 6: Program the Remote(s) (Each Must Be Completed Within 40 Seconds) For each remote: A. Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously for 1.5 seconds, then release. B. Immediately press and hold the lock button alone for 2 seconds, then release. C. Within 3 seconds, the door locks should lock and unlock once, confirming successful programming. If the locks cycle twice, the remote was not accepted. Repeat steps A and B. For remotes with dual sliding door buttons (if equipped): D. After programming the main buttons, press both sliding door buttons at the same time, then press each sliding door button individually to ensure full remote functionality is registered. This must be completed before opening the driver’s door to exit the session. E. Repeat the full remote programming sequence for any additional remotes.
  • Step 7: Exit Programming Mode Open the driver’s door to end the programming session. The system will exit programming mode and save all recognized remotes.

Additional Tips and Notes All Remotes Must Be Programmed Together:

  • Any remotes not programmed during the session will be erased and must be added again. System Capacity: Most systems accept up to four remotes. Exceeding this number may remove previously programmed remotes. Use Fresh Batteries: Ensure each remote has a working battery. Low power may prevent signal transmission. Timing Is Crucial: If at any point steps are delayed, the vehicle may exit programming mode. Start over from Step 1 as needed. Test Remote Functions: After programming, verify that lock, unlock, sliding door buttons (if applicable), and panic functions are working.
