Programming Guide for 2009 Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: The 2009 model supports onboard programming of keyless entry remote fobs. The process varies depending on whether your vehicle is equipped with Driver Information Center (DIC) buttons. This guide applies only to programming remote fobs and does not include ignition or transponder key programming.

If Your Vehicle Has Driver Information Center (DIC) Buttons:

  • Step 1: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position (do not start the engine).
  • Step 2: Press the Vehicle Information button repeatedly until the display reads PRESS TO RELEARN REMOTE KEY.
  • Step 3: Press the Set/Reset button. The display will change to REMOTE KEY LEARNING ACTIVE, indicating that programming mode is active.
  • Step 4: On the first remote, press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously. Hold them for approximately 15 seconds. A chime will sound to confirm successful programming.
  • Step 5: To program additional remotes, repeat Step 4 for each one. A total of up to eight remotes can be programmed.
  • Step 6: After programming is complete, turn the ignition key to the OFF position and remove it.
  • Step 7: Test each remote to confirm that all functions—lock, unlock, and panic—operate correctly.

If Your Vehicle Does Not Have Driver Information Center (DIC) Buttons:

  • Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is in Park (P). Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position (do not start the engine).
  • Step 2: Press the trip odometer reset stem repeatedly until the display shows RELEARN REMOTE KEY.
  • Step 3: Press and hold the trip odometer reset stem for about three seconds. The message REMOTE KEY LEARNING ACTIVE will appear, indicating programming mode is active.
  • Step 4: On the first remote, press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time for about 15 seconds. Wait for the confirmation chime to indicate successful programming.
  • Step 5: To program more remotes, repeat Step 4 for each one. The system supports a maximum of eight remotes.
  • Step 6: Turn the ignition to the OFF position and remove the key.
  • Step 7: Test all remotes to ensure proper operation.

Additional Considerations:

Maximum Remotes: The system can store up to eight keyless entry remote fobs.

Remote Battery: Ensure all remotes have working batteries before beginning.

Ignition Key Programming: This guide does not apply to ignition key programming. A technician with specialized tools is required to program ignition keys.

If Programming Fails: If a remote does not respond, restart the procedure from Step 1 and try again.
