Programming Guide for 2009 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob – Cadillac XLR
Important Notice: The 2009 Cadillac XLR allows onboard programming of up to four keyless entry remote fobs. You may use either a recognized transmitter or follow a longer process without one. Carefully follow the applicable set of instructions below.
Programming with a Recognized Transmitter: Use this method if at least one working remote is available:
- Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is completely off.
- Step 2: Keep both the recognized and new, unprogrammed remotes with you.
- Step 3: At the rear of the vehicle, insert the mechanical key into the lock cylinder on the lower rear fascia (driver's side).
- Step 4: Open the trunk and turn the key to the unlock position five times within five seconds.
- Step 5: The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display “READY FOR FOB #X,” indicating the next available slot.
- Step 6: Insert the new remote into the glove box transmitter pocket with the buttons facing to the right.
- Step 7: Once programming is successful, a beep will sound and the DIC will update to the next available fob number or show “MAX # FOBS LEARNED.”
- Step 8: Press the OFF/ACCESSORY button to complete the programming process.
Programming without a Recognized Transmitter: Use this procedure if no functional remote is available. The full process will take approximately 30 minutes:
- Step 1: Confirm that the vehicle is off.
- Step 2: Insert the new, unrecognized transmitter into the glove box transmitter pocket, button side facing right.
- Step 3: Move to the rear of the vehicle and insert the mechanical key into the lock cylinder on the driver-side lower fascia.
- Step 4: Open the trunk and turn the key to the unlock position five times within five seconds.
- Step 5: The DIC will display “OFF-ACC TO LEARN.”
- Step 6: Press the OFF/ACCESSORY button.
- Step 7: The DIC will read “WAIT 10 MINUTES” and begin a countdown to zero.
- Step 8: After the countdown, the DIC will display “OFF-ACC TO LEARN” again.
- Step 9: Press the OFF/ACCESSORY button again.
- Step 10: Wait for another 10-minute countdown to complete.
- Step 11: Once prompted again, press OFF/ACCESSORY a third time.
- Step 12: Wait for the final 10-minute countdown.
- Step 13: A beep will sound and the DIC will display “READY FOR FOB #1.” All previous transmitters are now erased.
- Step 14: The transmitter currently in the pocket is now programmed. The system will confirm with a beep and display “READY FOR FOB #2.”
- Step 15: To program another remote, remove the first one and insert the next into the pocket. Wait for the beep.
- Step 16: Repeat the process until up to four transmitters are recognized. The DIC will then show “MAX # FOBS LEARNED.”
- Step 17: Press the OFF/ACCESSORY button once more to fully exit programming mode.
