Programming Guide for 2009 Integrated Keyless Entry Remote Fob (Keyhead Transmitter)
Important Notice: This vehicle allows onboard programming of an additional key only if two working, previously programmed keys are available. The new key must be unprogrammed and compatible, with an integrated keyless entry remote (keyhead transmitter). If you do not have two existing programmed keys, this procedure will not work. Timing is critical throughout the process.
Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Make sure you have all of the following before starting: Two previously programmed, working ignition keys One new unprogrammed key with integrated remote All keys readily accessible in the vehicle
- Step 2: Sit in the driver’s seat and ensure all doors are closed.
- Step 3: Insert the first programmed key into the ignition.
- Step 4: Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine). Leave it in the ON position for at least 3 seconds but no more than 10 seconds.
- Step 5: Turn the ignition to the OFF position and remove the key.
- Step 6: Wait at least 3 seconds but no more than 10 seconds before continuing.
- Step 7: Insert the second programmed key into the ignition.
- Step 8: Turn the ignition to the ON position again. Hold it in this position for at least 3 seconds but no more than 10 seconds.
- Step 9: Turn the ignition OFF and remove the second key.
- Step 10: Wait at least 3 seconds but no more than 10 seconds after removing the second key.
- Step 11: Insert the new unprogrammed key into the ignition.
- Step 12: Turn the ignition to the ON position and leave it ON for at least 6 seconds to allow the system to program the key.
- Step 13: Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key.
- Step 14: Wait a few seconds, then test the new key by inserting it into the ignition and starting the engine.
- Step 15: Press the lock or unlock button on the remote head to confirm that the integrated keyless entry system is working.
- Step 16: If the new key fails to start the engine or activate the remote functions, wait 10 seconds and repeat the entire procedure from Step 1.
Additional Considerations: Both original keys must be recognized by the system to initiate programming mode. Each step must be performed within the specified time window. Timing errors can cause programming to fail. Ensure the new key has a functioning battery and is compatible with the vehicle’s system. Do not attempt to start the engine during any part of the programming steps. Use the ON position only.
