Programming Guide for 2009 Integrated Keyless Entry Remote Fob (Keyhead Transmitter)

Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard programming of an additional key only if two previously programmed ignition keys are available. The new key must be unprogrammed, compatible with the vehicle, and feature an integrated remote fob (keyhead transmitter). If fewer than two programmed keys are available, this procedure will not be successful.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Before beginning, ensure all necessary items are available: Two working, previously programmed ignition keys One new unprogrammed key with integrated remote All keys inside the vehicle with you
  • Step 2: Sit in the driver’s seat, close all doors, and ensure no interruptions will occur during the process.
  • Step 3: Insert the first programmed key into the ignition switch.
  • Step 4: Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine). Leave it in the ON position for at least 3 seconds but no longer than 10 seconds.
  • Step 5: Turn the ignition to the OFF position and remove the key.
  • Step 6: Wait at least 3 seconds but no more than 10 seconds before proceeding to the next step.
  • Step 7: Insert the second programmed key into the ignition.
  • Step 8: Turn the ignition to the ON position and hold it there for at least 3 seconds but no longer than 10 seconds.
  • Step 9: Turn the ignition OFF and remove the second key.
  • Step 10: Wait at least 3 seconds but no more than 10 seconds before continuing.
  • Step 11: Insert the new, unprogrammed key into the ignition.
  • Step 12: Turn the ignition to the ON position and keep it in that position for at least 6 seconds. This duration allows the vehicle's system to identify and program the new key.
  • Step 13: Turn the ignition to the OFF position and remove the key.
  • Step 14: Wait a few seconds, then insert the newly programmed key into the ignition.
  • Step 15: Attempt to start the engine using the newly programmed key. If the engine starts, programming was successful.
  • Step 16: Test the lock and unlock buttons on the key to verify that the integrated remote entry system is working properly.
  • Step 17: If the key fails to start the vehicle or the remote buttons do not respond, wait 10 seconds and repeat the full procedure from Step 3.

Additional Considerations: Both existing keys must be valid and recognized by the vehicle. If either fails, the programming process will not initiate. Precise timing is essential. Delays longer than 10 seconds between steps may cancel the procedure. Do not attempt to start the engine during the process. Only use the ON position for programming. Ensure the new key has a good battery if it includes remote entry features, as low battery voltage can interfere with signal recognition.
