2009 Subaru Forester Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Notes: You can program up to four remote fobs in one session. If the vehicle is equipped with an alarm, disable it before starting. Each remote has a unique ID code, found either on the original packaging (if new) or on a label inside the remote casing (if used). Have this 8-digit code ready before you begin.

Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Open the driver’s door, enter the vehicle, and close the driver’s door securely. Ensure all other doors and the rear hatch are also closed.
  • Step 2: Within 15 seconds, insert the key into the ignition and turn it from the LOCK to the ON position and back again ten times rapidly. Do not start the engine. After the tenth cycle, a single chime will sound, followed by a continuous tone and flashing of the interior dome light—indicating the vehicle has entered programming mode. If the tone and flashing light stop, an error occurred. Close the driver’s door and begin again from Step 1.
  • Step 3: Within 45 seconds, open and close the driver’s door once. The system will emit a tone, signaling that it is ready for ID code input.
  • Step 4: Enter the first digit of the remote’s 8-digit ID code by pressing the LOCK button on the driver’s door panel the same number of times as the digit.
  • Step 5: Press the UNLOCK button on the door panel to confirm the digit and proceed to the next.
  • Step 6: Continue Steps 4 and 5 to enter each digit of the ID code in order from left to right.
  • Step 7: After all eight digits are entered, repeat the entire ID code entry a second time to confirm.
  • Step 8: If the code is entered correctly both times, a confirmation chime will sound, indicating successful programming of the remote.
  • Step 9: To program another remote, repeat the ID code entry process (Steps 3–8) for each additional remote.
  • Step 10: Once programming is complete, test all remotes to ensure proper operation of lock, unlock, and alarm functions.
