2009 Subaru Impreza Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Note: You may program up to four remote transmitters for this vehicle. This procedure must be completed quickly and accurately. If any step is delayed or performed incorrectly, the system will exit programming mode and you will need to start over.
Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat. Make sure all doors, including the rear gate or trunk, are fully closed.
- Step 2: Open and close the driver’s door once.
- Step 3: Within 45 seconds of Step 2, open and close the driver’s door again.
- Step 4: Within the next 15 seconds, insert the key into the ignition and turn it from the LOCK to the ON position and back to LOCK ten times rapidly. Do not start the engine. After the tenth cycle, you should hear a single electronic tone, followed by a continuous buzzer and flashing interior light. This confirms the vehicle is in programming mode. If no tone or flashing light occurs, the system did not enter programming mode. Begin again from Step 3.
- Step 5: Within 45 seconds, open and close the driver’s door one more time. A 30-second tone will sound, signaling the system is ready for transmitter code input.
- Step 6: Before the tone ends, begin entering the 8-digit transmitter code: For each digit of the code (from left to right), press the LOCK button on the driver’s door panel the same number of times as the digit’s value. After entering each digit, press the UNLOCK button within five seconds to proceed to the next digit.
- Step 7: After all 8 digits have been entered, press UNLOCK once more within five seconds.
- Step 8: You must now repeat the entire 8-digit code entry sequence a second time to confirm. If the repeated code does not match the original, the system will reject the input and an error will occur.
- Step 9: Upon successful second entry, a confirmation tone will sound for 30 seconds. If the tone stops before you complete any step, or if five seconds pass between button presses, an error will occur. Start over from Step 3.
- Step 10: To program an additional remote, repeat Steps 4 through 9 for each new transmitter.
- Step 11: After programming is complete, remove the key from the ignition. The system will exit programming mode.
- Step 12: Test each remote to ensure that the locking and unlocking functions operate correctly.
