2009 Suzuki SX4 Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions

For Models with Standard Key and Remote Fob (Non-Smart Key)

Step-by-Step Procedure:

  • Step 1: Remove the key from the ignition.
  • Step 2: Ensure all vehicle doors are fully closed.
  • Step 3: Open the driver’s door and leave it open.
  • Step 4: Insert the key into the ignition, turn it to the ON position (do not start the engine), then turn it OFF and remove the key — all within 10 seconds.
  • Step 5: Within the next 20 seconds, quickly close and open the driver’s door three times.
  • Step 6: Insert the key again, turn it to the ON position, then back to OFF, and remove the key — again within 10 seconds.
  • Step 7: The door locks should automatically cycle (lock and unlock), indicating that the vehicle has entered programming mode.
  • Step 8: Press the UNLOCK button on the remote fob. The locks should cycle again to confirm successful programming.
  • Step 9: Repeat Step 8 for each additional remote, one at a time.
  • Step 10: Exit the vehicle, close all doors, and test each remote for proper operation. 2009 Smart Key Remote Programming Instructions For Models Equipped with Smart Key System Important Notes: You can program up to four remotes. If a fifth remote is programmed, all previously stored remotes will be erased. Programming a new remote will automatically delete any previously stored codes. Be sure to have all remotes present before starting, as they must all be programmed during the same session.

Smart Key Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Close all vehicle doors.
  • Step 2: Sit in the driver’s seat and confirm the driver’s door is unlocked.
  • Step 3: Insert the key into the ignition.
  • Step 4: Complete the following sequence within 25 seconds: A) Press the driver’s door power lock switch to the LOCK position, then to the UNLOCK position. B) Repeat this lock/unlock action two more times (for a total of three cycles). C) Press the switch to LOCK one more time. D) Remove the key from the ignition, then reinsert it. E) Repeat the remove/insert cycle three more times (for a total of four key cycles). F) Turn the ignition to the START position and allow the engine to run for 3 seconds. G) Proceed to Step 5 within 60 seconds of starting the engine. Note: If you fail to complete Steps 4A–F within 25 seconds or do not move to Step 5 within 60 seconds after engine start, the procedure will fail and must be restarted.
  • Step 5: Turn the ignition to the LOCK position. A buzzer will sound twice and the door locks will cycle automatically from lock to unlock to confirm entry into programming mode.
  • Step 6: Press any button (LOCK, UNLOCK, or PANIC) on the remote. The buzzer will sound twice and the locks will cycle again to confirm programming. Repeat this step for each additional remote within 30 seconds.
  • Step 7: To complete the programming process, either remove the key from the ignition or turn the ignition to the ON position.
  • Step 8: Test each remote to ensure the keyless entry and keyless start systems are functioning as expected. If any remote does not work, repeat the entire programming procedure.

Security Reminder:

  • If a remote has been lost, it is strongly recommended to erase all stored codes by programming a new remote. This will automatically clear all old codes. Be sure to reprogram all existing remotes during the same session, as only remotes included in the current programming cycle will remain active.
