Programming Guide for 2010 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob – CTS

(Smart Key System Only)

Programming When One Working Remote Is Available: If you already have one functioning smart key fob, you can use the following steps to add additional remotes:

  • Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is turned off.
  • Step 2: Place the currently working remote(s) in the front cupholder. Keep the new remote nearby.
  • Step 3: Insert the mechanical key into the driver’s door lock cylinder.
  • Step 4: Turn the key to the unlock position five times within five seconds.
  • Step 5: The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display: “Ready to Learn Electronic Key #2, 3, or 4.”
  • Step 6: Insert the new remote into the transmitter pocket, button-side facing the front of the vehicle. (The transmitter pocket is located inside the center console between the front seats.)
  • Step 7: A chime will sound once the remote is programmed. The DIC will then display the next key number or indicate that the maximum number of keys has been reached.
  • Step 8: Press the ignition control knob to exit programming mode.
  • Step 9: Remove the newly programmed remote from the transmitter pocket and press unlock twice to confirm it is functioning properly.
  • Step 10: To program additional remotes, repeat Steps 6 through 9 for each one.

Programming When No Working Remotes Are Available: If all previously programmed remotes have been lost, use this process to initialize and program new remotes:

  • Step 1: Make sure the vehicle is turned off.
  • Step 2: Insert the new remote into the transmitter pocket with the buttons facing forward.
  • Step 3: Insert the mechanical key into the driver’s door lock cylinder.
  • Step 4: Turn the key to the unlock position five times within five seconds.
  • Step 5: The DIC will display: “Ready to Learn Keys.”
  • Step 6: Press the ignition switch.
  • Step 7: The DIC will display: “Learn Delay Active – Wait XX Minutes,” and begin a countdown.
  • Step 8: Once prompted, press the ignition switch again.
  • Step 9: Repeat Steps 7 and 8 two more times.
  • Step 10: After the third countdown, the DIC will display: “Ready to Learn Electronic Key #1.” (At this point, all previously recognized remotes will be erased.)
  • Step 11: A chime will confirm that the first remote is programmed.
  • Step 12: The DIC will then advance to “Ready to Learn Electronic Key #2.”
  • Step 13: For each additional remote, place it in the transmitter pocket. After each is accepted, the DIC will move to the next key number.
  • Step 14: Up to four remotes can be programmed. When the system reaches capacity, the DIC will display: “Maximum Number of Electronic Keys Learned,” and exit programming mode.
  • Step 15: Press the ignition control knob to finalize the session.
  • Step 16: Press unlock on each newly programmed remote to confirm functionality.
