Programming Guide for 2010 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob – Cadillac STS

Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard remote programming. You may follow the appropriate procedure below depending on whether you have a working transmitter. Canadian models require two recognized remotes to program a new one. U.S. models can be programmed with zero or one functioning transmitter.

Programming with a Recognized Transmitter: Use this method if at least one transmitter is currently programmed and functional.

  • Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is turned off.
  • Step 2: Have both the working transmitter and the new unprogrammed transmitter with you.
  • Step 3: Insert the vehicle key into the driver’s door lock cylinder.
  • Step 4: Turn the key to the unlock position five times within five seconds.
  • Step 5: The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display “Ready to Learn Electronic Key #2, 3, or 4.”
  • Step 6: Place the new transmitter into the transmitter pocket inside the center console, with the buttons facing the front of the vehicle.
  • Step 7: A beep will sound once the transmitter is successfully programmed. The DIC will update with “Ready to Learn Electronic Key #3 or 4” or “Maximum # Electronic Keys Learned.”
  • Step 8: Press the ignition control knob to exit programming mode.
  • Step 9: Remove the transmitter from the pocket and press the UNLOCK button twice.
  • Step 10: To add more remotes, repeat Steps 6 through 9 for each one.

Programming without a Recognized Transmitter (U.S. Models Only): Use this process if you do not have any working remotes. This method takes about 30 minutes to complete.

  • Step 1: Make sure the vehicle is turned off.
  • Step 2: Insert the new transmitter into the transmitter pocket, located inside the center console with buttons facing forward.
  • Step 3: Insert the vehicle key into the driver’s door lock cylinder.

  • Step 7: The DIC will show “Learn Delay Active – Wait XX Min”, counting down for ten minutes.
  • Step 8: When prompted again, press the ignition switch.
  • Step 9: Repeat Steps 7 and 8 two more times, for a total of three ten-minute cycles.
  • Step 10: After the final cycle, a beep will sound and the DIC will display “Ready to Learn Electronic Key #1.” All previously recognized transmitters will be erased.
  • Step 11: The new transmitter will be programmed, and a beep will confirm success. The DIC will show “Ready to Learn Electronic Key #2.”
  • Step 12: To add more transmitters, insert each one into the pocket until a beep confirms programming.
