Programming Instructions for 2010 Mazda CX-7

Flip Key Remote • Transponder Key • Smart Key

Section 1: Programming the Remote (Lock/Unlock) Portion of the Flip Key This procedure is used to program the remote entry functions of the flip key. Carefully follow each step in the correct order.

  • Step 1: Open the driver’s door and leave it open throughout the process.
  • Step 2: Use the interior power lock switch to lock and then unlock the driver’s door.
  • Step 3: Insert the flip key into the ignition.
  • Step 4: Turn the key from OFF to ON and back to OFF three times within 10 seconds. Leave the key in the ignition in the OFF position.
  • Step 5: Close and open the driver’s door three times. Leave the door open after the third cycle.
  • Step 6: The system should respond by locking and unlocking the doors once, indicating that it has entered programming mode.
  • Step 7: Press any button on the first remote twice. The system will respond by locking and unlocking the doors to confirm successful programming.
  • Step 8: Repeat Step 7 for up to two additional remotes, if needed (maximum of three remotes total).
  • Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition. The system will confirm programming completion with a final series of approximately four door lock/unlock cycles.

Section 2: Programming the Transponder (Ignition) Portion of the Flip Key This procedure allows the vehicle to recognize the ignition chip inside a new flip key. It requires two existing programmed keys. Note: The new key must be cut to match the ignition before beginning. Timing is critical—read all steps before starting.

  • Step 1: Insert the first programmed transponder key and turn it to the ON position. Wait at least one second (until the red key symbol turns off), then remove the key.
  • Step 2: Within five seconds, insert the second programmed key. Turn it to the ON position for at least one second but no more than five seconds. Then remove the key.
  • Step 3: Within ten seconds, insert the new key to be programmed. Turn it to the ON position. If successful: The red key icon will illuminate briefly and turn off after about one second. If unsuccessful: The red key icon will flash continuously. Remove the key, wait one minute, and repeat the procedure.

Section 3: Programming a Smart Key (If Equipped) The smart key system for the 2010 Mazda CX-7 cannot be programmed using on-board procedures. Professional diagnostic equipment is required.
