2010 Mercury Mariner

Programming Guide for 2010 Integrated Keyless Entry Remote Fob (Keyhead Transmitter)

Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard programming for additional integrated remote keys, provided you have two working, previously programmed ignition keys. If you have fewer than two, onboard programming cannot be completed. The new key must be compatible and equipped with an integrated keyless entry fob.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Confirm you have all necessary items before beginning: Two previously programmed keys One new, unprogrammed key with an integrated keyless remote All keys inside the vehicle, readily accessible
  • Step 2: Sit in the driver’s seat with all doors closed to prevent interruptions during programming.
  • Step 3: Insert the first programmed key into the ignition switch.
  • Step 4: Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine). Keep the key in the ON position for at least 3 seconds, but no longer than 10 seconds.
  • Step 5: Turn the ignition to the OFF position and remove the first key from the ignition.
  • Step 6: Wait at least 3 seconds but no more than 10 seconds before continuing.
  • Step 7: Insert the second programmed key into the ignition switch.
  • Step 8: Turn the ignition to the ON position and hold it there for at least 3 seconds, but no longer than 10 seconds.
  • Step 9: Turn the ignition to the OFF position and remove the second key.
  • Step 10: Wait at least 3 seconds but no more than 10 seconds after removing the second key.
  • Step 11: Insert the new unprogrammed key into the ignition.
  • Step 12: Turn the ignition to the ON position and leave it on for at least 6 seconds. This allows the system to register and program the new key.
  • Step 13: Turn the ignition OFF and remove the newly programmed key.
  • Step 14: Wait a few seconds, then test the new key by inserting it and attempting to start the engine.
  • Step 15: Verify that the lock and unlock buttons on the integrated remote function as expected.
  • Step 16: If the key does not start the vehicle or fails to operate the remote functions, wait 10 seconds and repeat the entire process from Step 1.

Additional Considerations: All timing intervals must be followed precisely. Any delay between steps may cause programming to fail. Do not attempt to start the vehicle during the programming process. Use the ON position only. Ensure all keys are clean and functional. Dirt or damage on the key chip or ignition cylinder can interfere with recognition. Check the battery in the new key if it includes an integrated remote. A weak battery may prevent the remote functions from working properly.
