Programming Guide for 2010 Mercury Mountaineer Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Section 1: Programming Standard Keyless Entry Remote Fobs Important
Notice: The 2010 Mercury Mountaineer supports onboard programming for standard keyless entry remotes. During this process, all remotes must be programmed during the same session. Any remote that is not included will be erased from the system and must be reprogrammed to work again.
Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat and close all doors securely.
- Step 2: Have all remote fobs you wish to program ready before beginning.
- Step 3: Insert the ignition key into the ignition switch but do not start the engine.
- Step 4: Within 10 seconds, turn the ignition from the OFF position to the RUN position eight times, ending in RUN on the 8th cycle. Turn the key quickly and consistently.
- Step 5: After the eighth turn, the door locks will lock and unlock, confirming entry into programming mode.
- Step 6: Within 20 seconds, press any button on the first remote fob. The door locks will cycle again to confirm successful programming.
- Step 7: If you are programming a second remote, press any button on it within 20 seconds of the previous remote. The locks will cycle once more to confirm programming.
- Step 8: Repeat Step 7 for any additional remotes, ensuring each one is programmed within 20 seconds of the last.
- Step 9: When finished, turn the ignition to the OFF position. The door locks will cycle one final time to signal the end of programming mode.
- Step 10: Remove the key and test each remote to verify that lock and unlock functions work correctly.
Section 2: Programming Remote Head Keys (Integrated Key and Remote) Important Notice: This procedure requires two previously programmed ignition keys. If only one working key is available, this method will not work and the vehicle will require external diagnostic equipment to add a new key.
Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Ensure you have all of the following before beginning: Two working ignition keys that are already programmed One new, unprogrammed remote head key (integrated key and remote)
- Step 2: Insert the first working key into the ignition.
- Step 3: Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine) and leave it in this position for 3 to 10 seconds.
- Step 4: Turn the ignition to the OFF position and remove the first key.
- Step 5: Within 10 seconds, insert the second working key into the ignition.
- Step 6: Turn the ignition to the ON position again for 3 to 10 seconds.
- Step 7: Turn the ignition to OFF and remove the second key.
- Step 8: Within 10 seconds, insert the new, unprogrammed key into the ignition.
- Step 9: Turn the ignition to the ON position and leave it on for at least 6 seconds.
- Step 10: Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key.
- Step 11: Test the newly programmed key by confirming that: It starts the vehicle The integrated remote fob buttons (lock/unlock) function properly
- Step 12: If the new key does not work, wait 10 seconds and repeat the full process from Step 2.
Additional Considerations: All remotes must be programmed during a single session. Skipping one will deactivate it. Timing is critical. Be sure to follow each step within the required time windows. Check all remote batteries before starting to avoid failed programming attempts.
