2010 Mitsubishi Outlander – Keyless Entry Remote Fob and Smart Key

Programming Instructions: Standard Ignition Key or Remote Head Key (RHK) – Immobilizer Programming This procedure programs the engine start (immobilizer) portion only. The remote button functions on a Remote Head Key must be programmed separately. Requirements: You must have two working ignition keys to add a third. Vehicles sold in Canada do not support this procedure.

  • Step 1: Insert the first programmed key into the ignition. Turn it to the ON position for 5 seconds, then turn it OFF and remove it.
  • Step 2: Within 30 seconds, insert the second programmed key and turn it to the ON position. After approximately 10 seconds, the immobilizer warning light will begin to flash.
  • Step 3: When the light starts flashing, turn the second key OFF and remove it.
  • Step 4: Within 30 seconds of removing the second key, insert the new key and turn it to the ON position. If successful, the immobilizer light will illuminate solid for 3 seconds, then turn off. If the light turns off at any other point or flashes during the procedure, restart from Step 1.
  • Step 5: Test the newly programmed key to ensure the engine starts properly.
  • Step 6: Repeat the entire process to program any additional keys. Remote Head Key – Remote Button Programming This section programs the remote lock/unlock buttons on the Remote Head Key.

You must have at least one working remote to begin.

  • Step 1: Have all remotes (old and new) ready. Only remotes programmed during this session will remain active.
  • Step 2: Using a working remote, press and hold the UNLOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds, then press and hold the LOCK button.
  • Step 3: Within 10 seconds of pressing the LOCK button, release the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons in order. The vehicle will lock and unlock the doors to confirm entry into remote programming mode.
  • Step 4: Within 60 seconds, program each additional remote by doing the following: Press and hold both LOCK and UNLOCK buttons for 2 seconds Release both buttons for 1 second Press and release the UNLOCK button
  • Step 5: If the procedure is successful, the doors will lock and unlock.
  • Step 6: Repeat Step 4 for each remote. If no remotes are programmed within 60 seconds, the system will exit programming mode.
  • Step 7: Test all remotes to confirm functionality. Smart Key System – Fob and Button Programming Programming a Smart Key requires two existing smart keys and a cut emergency key. Vehicles sold in Canada do not support this onboard procedure.

Part 1: Immobilizer (Start Function) Programming

  • Step 1: Remove the emergency key from the new smart key fob.
  • Step 2: Press both lock release buttons and remove the ignition switch cover.
  • Step 3: Insert the emergency key into the ignition switch.
  • Step 4: Insert the first working smart key into the emergency key. Turn the key to the ON position for 5 seconds, then turn it OFF.
  • Step 5: Within 30 seconds, remove the first smart key and insert the second working smart key. Turn it to the ON position. After about 10 seconds, the immobilizer light will begin to blink.
  • Step 6: When the light starts blinking, turn the key OFF and remove it.
  • Step 7: Within 30 seconds, insert the new smart key into the emergency key and turn it to the ON position. If successful, the immobilizer light will illuminate solid for 3 seconds, then turn off. If the light turns off or flashes during the procedure, restart from Step 1.
  • Step 8: To add another smart key, repeat from Step 1.

Part 2: Smart Key Remote Button Programming

  • Step 1: Remove the emergency key and open the ignition switch cover.
  • Step 2: Insert the emergency key and attach the first working smart key.
  • Step 3: Turn the key to the ON position and begin the next steps within 30 seconds.
  • Step 4: Remove the smart key from the emergency key.
  • Step 5: On the first smart key, press UNLOCK and LOCK together for 4 to 10 seconds.
  • Step 6: Within 10 seconds, release LOCK and then UNLOCK in that order.
  • Step 7: With the second smart key, press UNLOCK for 4 to 10 seconds, then press and hold LOCK.
  • Step 8: Within 10 seconds, release LOCK, then UNLOCK. The immobilizer light will begin blinking on the display.
  • Step 9: Within 60 seconds, take the new smart key and press the LOCK button twice. The immobilizer light will stay on for 30 seconds, confirming success.
  • Step 10: All remote button functions should now be operational. Test the smart key to confirm.
