2010 Subaru Forester Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Notes: A maximum of four remote fobs can be programmed in one session. If equipped, deactivate the alarm system before starting. Each remote fob has a unique 8-digit ID code, printed on its original packaging or inside the case. This code is required for programming.

Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Confirm all vehicle doors, including the rear hatch, are completely closed.
  • Step 2: Enter the vehicle through the driver’s side, sit in the driver’s seat, and close the door behind you.
  • Step 3: Within 15 seconds, turn the ignition key from the LOCK position to the ON position and back again 10 times rapidly. Do not start the engine. If done correctly, the interior lights will flash and an audible chime will sound, indicating the vehicle has entered programming mode. If no lights or chime are detected, exit the vehicle, close the door, and begin again from Step 1.
  • Step 4: Open and then close the driver’s door once. The continuous chime will resume, confirming the system is awaiting ID code input.
  • Step 5: Using the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the driver’s door panel, enter the remote’s 8-digit ID code: Press the LOCK button the number of times that corresponds to the first digit of the code. Press the UNLOCK button once to confirm the digit and advance to the next. Repeat this process for all eight digits.
  • Step 6: After entering the 8-digit code once, you must repeat the entire code entry process a second time using the same method.
  • Step 7: After successful confirmation, the system will emit a 30-second chime, signaling that the remote has been successfully programmed.
  • Step 8: To program another remote, repeat Steps 3 through 6 using the next remote’s ID code.
  • Step 9: If no additional remotes need programming, remove the key from the ignition to complete the session. Programming is now finished.
