2010 Subaru Impreza Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important: This process may appear complex at first, but it becomes straightforward once you understand the sequence. If you make a mistake, you can restart the procedure at any time.

Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Identify which type of remote you have: Separate Remote: This method fully programs the remote. Remotehead Key: This process will only program the remote buttons. The key must still be cut and the transponder chip programmed by a dealer or technician.
  • Step 2: Remove the back cover from your remote: Use a flat-blade screwdriver to pop open a separate remote. Use a small Phillips screwdriver to open a remotehead key.
  • Step 3: Locate and write down the 8-digit numerical ID code printed inside the remote. Note: Use the row with numbers only. Do not include any letters.
  • Step 4: Confirm all vehicle doors, including the trunk, are securely closed.
  • Step 5: Sit in the driver’s seat and close the driver’s door. Begin the next step immediately.
  • Step 6: Turn the ignition key from LOCK to ON ten times within 15 seconds. Do not start the vehicle. The vehicle will respond with flashing lights and a tone, confirming entry into programming mode. If no lights or sounds are triggered, exit the vehicle and restart from Step 5.
  • Step 7: Open and then close the driver’s door once. The alert tone should continue, indicating the system is still in programming mode.
  • Step 8: Begin entering the 8-digit code using the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the driver’s door panel: For each digit: Press the LOCK button the number of times matching the digit. Then press UNLOCK to move to the next digit. After all 8 digits are entered, press UNLOCK once more.
  • Step 9: Repeat Step 8 exactly, entering the same 8-digit code a second time. After the final digit is entered, a 30-second confirmation tone will sound. If you enter the wrong sequence, or if more than five seconds pass between button presses, the system will exit programming mode. Restart from Step 5.
  • Step 10: If you have more remotes to program, repeat Steps 5 through 9 for each one.
  • Step 11: Once all remotes have been programmed, remove the key from the ignition. Programming is now complete.
  • Step 12: Test each remote to confirm functionality.
