2010 Subaru Outback Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Notice: The 2010 Subaru Outback includes a built-in keyless entry system that allows you to program new remote fobs using their unique 8-digit identification codes. This system can store up to four remotes at one time. When replacing or adding a remote, it is recommended to delete any old codes still stored in memory. You’ll find the 8-digit code on a label inside the remote or on the packaging. Be sure to note it down before beginning. Preparation Ensure the 8-digit code is recorded. Complete each step quickly and precisely. Any delays may cancel the process. Avoid programming near other vehicles with remote keyless systems to prevent unintended interference.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat. Close all doors, the trunk, and the rear gate securely.
  • Step 2: Open and close the driver’s door one time.
  • Step 3: Within 45 seconds, open and close the driver’s door again.
  • Step 4: Turn the ignition key from LOCK to ON (dash lights only; do not start the engine), then back to LOCK—10 times within 15 seconds. If done correctly, you will hear a confirmation tone, followed by a continuous buzzer and flashing interior lights. If you do not hear or see these signs, return to Step 3 and try again.
  • Step 5: Within 45 seconds, open and close the driver’s door once more. A 30-second tone will begin, signaling readiness for code input. Entering the Transmitter Code
  • Step 6: Using the driver’s side power door lock switch, begin entering the 8-digit code: For each digit, press the LOCK button the number of times corresponding to that digit. Press UNLOCK once to move to the next digit. Continue this process until all 8 digits are entered. After the eighth digit, press UNLOCK once more to confirm.
  • Step 7: Immediately re-enter the same 8-digit code following the same steps. After entering the final digit, press UNLOCK once again. A long confirmation tone will sound if the codes match and are accepted. If no tone occurs or a mistake is made, begin again from Step 4. If you pause longer than five seconds between button presses, or if both entries do not match, the system will cancel and require a restart. Programming Additional Remotes
  • Step 8: If you wish to program more remotes (up to four total), repeat Steps 4 through 7 for each. Completing the Process
  • Step 9: When finished, remove the key from the ignition. This automatically exits programming mode.
  • Step 10: Test all programmed remotes to confirm proper lock/unlock function. Erasing Previously Stored Remotes If you are replacing lost or outdated remotes, it’s essential to remove their codes from memory. To do this: Program four remotes in total. If only one working remote is available, program it four times. If you have two, program each twice. For three remotes, program two once and the third twice. This overwrites all stored codes and retains only the remotes you’ve re-entered.
