2010 Subaru Tribeca Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Overview: These steps allow you to program the remote functions (lock/unlock) for up to 4 remotes. Remotehead Key users: This procedure will only program the remote buttons. The key itself must be cut and its transponder chip programmed by a professional for engine start. Make sure you read through all the steps before starting. Timing is crucial.

Preparation Steps:

  • Step 1: Identify your remote type: Separate Remote: Use a flathead screwdriver to pop off the back cover. Remotehead Key: Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the back screws.
  • Step 2: Find the 8-digit numeric code inside the remote (no letters). Write this number down—it's required for programming. Programming Instructions:
  • Step 3: Ensure all vehicle doors and the trunk are fully closed.
  • Step 4: Enter the vehicle and close the driver’s door securely behind you.
  • Step 5: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it from LOCK to ON and back to LOCK a total of 10 times within 15 seconds. Turn only to the ON position where the dashboard lights come on (do not start the engine). If successful, the vehicle lights will flash, and you’ll hear a tone indicating entry into programming mode. If no lights flash or no tone sounds, exit the vehicle and restart the process from Step 4.
  • Step 6: Open and close the driver’s door once. The confirmation tone should continue, indicating the system remains in programming mode. Entering the Remote Code:
  • Step 7: Using the driver-side power lock switch, enter the 8-digit code: Press the LOCK switch the number of times corresponding to the first digit. Then press UNLOCK once to move to the next digit. Repeat this process for each of the 8 digits.
  • Step 8: Repeat the exact same process again to confirm the code. Use LOCK/UNLOCK for all 8 digits. After completing the second entry, the vehicle will emit a confirmation tone for 30 seconds. If the confirmation tone does not sound, restart the process from Step 5. Additional Remotes:
  • Step 9: To program another remote, repeat Steps 5 through 8 for each additional fob. A maximum of four remotes can be stored. Finishing Up:
  • Step 10: Once all remotes are programmed, remove the key from the ignition to exit programming mode.
  • Step 11: Test each remote by: Pressing LOCK to verify the vehicle locks. Pressing UNLOCK once to unlock the driver door. Pressing UNLOCK again to unlock all doors and rear hatch.
