Programming a fifth remote will erase all previously stored codes. Any time a new remote is added, all remotes must be programmed together. Have all remote fobs ready before beginning the procedure.

Smart Key Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Close all vehicle doors.
  • Step 2: Sit in the driver’s seat and ensure the driver’s door is unlocked.
  • Step 3: Insert the key into the ignition switch.
  • Step 4: Complete the following sequence within 25 seconds of inserting the key:
  • A) Press the driver’s power door lock switch to the LOCK position, then to the UNLOCK position.
  • B) Repeat the lock/unlock action two more times.
  • C) Press the switch once more to the LOCK position.
  • D) Remove the key from the ignition and reinsert it.
  • E) Repeat the key removal and reinsertion three more times.
  • F) Turn the ignition to the START position and allow the engine to run for 3 seconds.
  • G) Proceed to Step 5 within 60 seconds after starting the engine. If Steps 4A–F are not completed within 25 seconds or if Step 5 is not started within 60 seconds of engine start, the procedure must be restarted.
  • Step 5: Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position. A buzzer will sound twice and the door locks will cycle from locked to unlocked automatically, confirming programming mode activation.
  • Step 6: Press any button (LOCK, UNLOCK, or PANIC) on the first remote. The buzzer will sound twice and the door locks will cycle to confirm successful programming. Repeat this step for each additional remote within 30 seconds.
  • Step 7: To complete the programming process, either remove the key from the ignition or turn it to the ON position.
  • Step 8: Test all remotes to ensure full functionality of the keyless entry and keyless start systems. If any remote fails to operate, repeat the programming procedure.

Security Reminder:

  • If a remote has been lost, it is recommended to clear old codes from memory by programming a new remote. This will automatically delete all previously stored remotes. Ensure all remaining remotes are programmed during the same session, as only those included in the current process will remain functional.
