Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Guide – 2010 Toyota Sienna

Important Notice: These instructions apply to vehicles equipped with a traditional key ignition and a factory keyless entry system. The programming process must be completed in precise sequence and within strict time limits. If any step is performed too slowly or incorrectly, the procedure must be restarted.

Programming Procedure

  • Step 1: Prepare the Vehicle Remove the key from the ignition. Make sure the driver’s door is open, all other doors are closed, and the driver’s door is unlocked. Sit inside the vehicle with your remote(s) ready.
  • Step 2: Initial Key Insertions (Complete Within 5 Seconds) A. Insert the key into the ignition without turning, then remove it. B. Repeat: Insert the key again without turning, then remove it. These actions must be completed within 5 seconds.
  • Step 3: Door Actions and Key Insert (Complete Within 40 Seconds) A. Close and then open the driver’s door. B. Repeat: Close and open the driver’s door again. C. Insert the key into the ignition without turning, then remove it.
  • Step 4: Activate Programming Mode (Complete Within 40 Seconds) A. Close and then open the driver’s door again. B. Repeat: Close and open the driver’s door once more. C. Insert the key into the ignition and leave it inserted. D. Close the driver’s door completely. E. Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine), then back to OFF. F. Remove the key from the ignition.
  • Step 5: Confirm Programming Mode Entry Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should lock and then unlock automatically. This indicates that the system has entered programming mode. If the locks do not cycle, repeat the procedure starting from Step 1, paying close attention to timing. Remote Programming (Complete Each Within 40 Seconds)
  • Step 6: Program Each Remote A. Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously for 1.5 seconds, then release both. B. Immediately press and hold the lock button alone for 2 seconds, then release. C. Within 3 seconds, the door locks should lock and then unlock once, confirming successful programming. If the locks cycle twice, the remote was not accepted. Repeat steps A and B. D. Repeat this process for each additional remote you wish to program.
  • Step 7: Exit Programming Mode Once all remotes have been programmed, open the driver’s door to exit programming mode. The vehicle will now store and recognize all programmed remotes.

Additional Notes and Tips Program All Remotes Together:

  • Any remote not programmed during the current session will no longer function and must be reprogrammed. Maximum Capacity: The system typically stores up to four remotes. Programming beyond this limit may overwrite an existing one. Battery Check: Ensure each remote has a strong battery before starting the process. Weak batteries can cause programming to fail. Timing is Critical: The procedure is highly sensitive to timing. Delays or errors will result in failure. Restart from Step 1 if necessary. Verify Functionality: After programming, test each remote to confirm proper operation of lock, unlock, and panic features (if equipped).
