2010 Toyota Tacoma Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Guide

Important Notice: This procedure applies only to vehicles equipped with a factory keyless entry system. Timing is crucial. Each step must be completed within the specified time limits. If not, the process will fail, and you must begin again from the start.

Programming Procedure

  • Step 1: Prepare the Vehicle Remove the key from the ignition. Open the driver’s door and ensure it is unlocked. Keep all other doors closed throughout the procedure.
  • Step 2: Begin Key Insertions – Complete Within 5 Seconds A. Insert the key into the ignition (do not turn), then remove it. B. Repeat: insert the key into the ignition (do not turn), then remove it again. Complete these actions quickly and smoothly.
  • Step 3: Door Cycle – Complete Within 40 Seconds A. Close and then reopen the driver’s door. B. Repeat: close and reopen the door again. C. Insert the key into the ignition (do not turn), then remove it.
  • Step 4: Final Setup – Complete Within 40 Seconds A. Close and reopen the driver’s door. B. Repeat: close and reopen the door once more. C. Insert the key into the ignition and leave it in place. D. Close the driver’s door completely. E. Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine), then back to OFF. F. Remove the key from the ignition.
  • Step 5: Confirm Entry into Programming Mode Within 3 seconds of removing the key: The door locks should automatically lock and then unlock once. This confirms successful entry into programming mode. If the locks do not cycle, restart from Step 1. Programming Remote Fobs
  • Step 6: Program Each Remote – Complete Within 40 Seconds Per Remote A. Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote simultaneously for 1.5 seconds. B. Release both buttons, then press and hold the LOCK button alone for 2 seconds. C. The door locks should cycle once (lock and unlock) to confirm the remote was accepted. If the locks cycle twice, the remote was not programmed. Repeat Step 6 for that remote.
  • Step 7: Add Additional Remotes Repeat Step 6 for each additional remote you wish to program. You can program up to four remotes during a single session.
  • Step 8: Exit Programming Mode Open the driver’s door to exit programming mode and return the vehicle to normal operation. Final Verification
