Programming Guide for 2011 Keyless Entry Remote Fob (Flip Key or Smart Key System)
Important Notice:
The 2011 model supports two different procedures depending on your situation:
If no keys are currently programmed (all keys lost), professional programming is required. If you have one working key, you may add additional keys using the vehicle's onboard procedure. These instructions apply to keyless entry remote fobs and flip keys. Smart key push-to-start models require a separate procedure.
If All Keys Are Lost:
Note: This vehicle does not support onboard programming when no working keys are available. Specialized diagnostic tools are required to program a new key to the system. The vehicle must be accessed via a professional technician with the appropriate equipment.
If You Have One Working Flip Key and Want to Add a New Key:
- Step 1: Insert the existing, already programmed key into the ignition.
- Step 2: Turn the key to the ON/RUN position. Do not start the engine.
- Step 3: Turn the key to the OFF/LOCK position and remove it from the ignition.
- Step 4: Within five seconds, insert the new key to be programmed into the ignition.
- Step 5: Turn the new key to the ON/RUN position. The security indicator light on the dashboard will turn off once the key has been successfully programmed.
- Step 6: If you have additional keys to program, repeat Steps 1 through 5 for each new key.
- Step 7: After all keys are programmed, verify that each one starts the vehicle and operates the remote functions properly.
If You Have a Recognized Smart Key Transmitter: For push-button start models, the programming process requires a recognized transmitter to be present.
The following general steps apply:
- Step 1: Place the working transmitter in the vehicle.
- Step 2: Insert the new transmitter into the designated programming slot (location varies by trim—often inside the center console or under a cup holder liner).
- Step 3: Use the onboard screen or ignition button sequence to enter programming mode. (Refer to the owner's manual for model-specific steps.)
- Step 4: Follow the on-screen or dash light prompts to complete programming.
- Step 5: Once the new transmitter is accepted, test it to ensure both remote and ignition functions are working.
Additional Considerations:
Number of Keys Supported: The system typically stores up to eight keys or transmitters.
Battery Check: Ensure all keys and remotes have fully functional batteries before starting the procedure.
If Programming Fails: Restart the procedure from the beginning or seek assistance if the vehicle does not recognize the new key.
