Programming Guide for 2011 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob – Cadillac STS

Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard transmitter programming under specific conditions. The process differs depending on whether you have a working transmitter.

Note: Canadian vehicles require two working transmitters to program a new one. U.S. models allow programming with none or one functional transmitter.

Programming with a Recognized Transmitter: Use this procedure when you have at least one working remote fob.

  • Step 1: Ensure the ignition is turned off.
  • Step 2: Keep both the working (recognized) and the new (unprogrammed) transmitters with you.
  • Step 3: Insert the vehicle key into the driver-side exterior door lock cylinder.
  • Step 4: Turn the key to the unlock position five times within five seconds.
  • Step 5: The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display: “Ready to Learn Electronic Key #2, 3, or 4.”
  • Step 6: Insert the new transmitter into the transmitter pocket inside the center console storage compartment, with the buttons facing forward.
  • Step 7: A chime will sound when the transmitter is accepted. The DIC will display “Ready to Learn Electronic Key #3 or 4,” or “Maximum # Electronic Keys Learned.”
  • Step 8: Press the ignition control knob to exit programming mode.
  • Step 9: Remove the transmitter and press the UNLOCK button twice to complete initialization.
  • Step 10: To program more remotes, repeat Steps 6–9 for each additional unit.

Programming without a Recognized Transmitter (U.S. Models Only): Use this method if no functional transmitters are available. This process requires three 10-minute learning cycles and takes approximately 30 minutes.

  • Step 1: Turn the vehicle off.
  • Step 2: Insert the new remote into the transmitter pocket, located inside the center console with the buttons facing the front.
  • Step 3: Insert the vehicle key into the driver’s side exterior door lock.
  • Step 4: Turn the key to the unlock position five times within five seconds.
  • Step 5: The DIC will display “Press Start Control to Learn Keys.”
  • Step 6: Press the ignition switch once.
  • Step 7: The DIC will show “Learn Delay Active – Wait XX Min” and begin counting down.
  • Step 8: When prompted, press the ignition switch again.
  • Step 9: Repeat the wait cycle two more times, pressing the ignition switch when prompted.
  • Step 10: After the third cycle, a chime will sound and the DIC will display “Ready to Learn Electronic Key #1.” At this stage, all previously programmed remotes are erased.
  • Step 11: A chime will confirm programming of the transmitter. The DIC will advance to “Ready to Learn Electronic Key #2.”
  • Step 12: To add more remotes, place each into the transmitter pocket one at a time. A chime will confirm each successful programming.
  • Step 13: When all remotes are programmed (up to four), the DIC will display “Maximum # Electronic Keys Learned” and exit programming mode.
  • Step 14: Press the ignition control knob to finalize the procedure.
  • Step 15: Test each newly programmed remote by pressing the UNLOCK button twice.
