2011 Lincoln MKX

Programming Instructions for the 2011 Lincoln MKX Keyless Entry Remote Fob Smart Key

Note: This vehicle requires two previously programmed Intelligent Access Keys to add a third (new) key. If you only have one or no working keys, professional programming will be required. A maximum of four Intelligent Access Keys can be programmed. If four are already stored, one must be erased before a new key can be added.

Before You Begin:

  • Ensure the vehicle is off. Close all doors and keep them closed throughout the process. Perform each step within 30 seconds of the previous one. If you make a mistake, stop and wait at least one full minute, then start over.

Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat and ensure all Intelligent Access Keys (both working and new) are with you inside the vehicle.
  • Step 2: Open the center console utility compartment and locate the key backup slot (usually near the bottom or side wall).
  • Step 3: Place the new unprogrammed Intelligent Access Key in the backup slot with the buttons facing outward and the key ring facing up.
  • Step 4: Press the unlock button on the driver or passenger side door panel three times.
  • Step 5: Press and release the brake pedal once.
  • Step 6: Press the lock button on the driver or passenger door panel three times.
  • Step 7: Press and release the brake pedal again once.
  • Step 8: Watch the Start/Stop button indicator—it should begin to flash rapidly, signaling that the vehicle has entered programming mode and has detected two valid programmed keys.
  • Step 9: Within one minute, press the Start/Stop button once. If programming is successful, a message will appear on the instrument cluster display confirming that the new key has been added.
  • Step 10: Remove the newly programmed key from the backup slot. Step 11: Press the lock or unlock button on the new key to exit programming mode.
  • Step 12: Test the new Intelligent Access Key by: Locking and unlocking the doors using the key fob buttons. Starting the vehicle using the push-button start.
  • Step 13: If the key does not function as expected, wait 10 seconds and repeat Steps 1–12 carefully.
