Programming Instructions for 2011 Mazda CX-7
Flip Key Remote • Transponder Ignition Key • Smart Key
Section 1: Programming the Remote (Lock/Unlock) Portion of the Flip Key This process enables the remote control functions (lock/unlock) on the flip key. Follow each step carefully and in sequence.
- Step 1: Open the driver’s door and leave it open.
- Step 2: Use the door’s power lock switch to lock and then unlock the driver’s door.
- Step 3: Insert the flip key into the ignition.
- Step 4: Turn the key to the ON position and back to OFF three times within 10 seconds. Leave the key in the OFF position after the third cycle.
- Step 5: Close and open the driver’s door three times. Leave the door open after the third repetition.
- Step 6: The doors will lock and unlock once, confirming entry into programming mode.
- Step 7: Press any button on the first remote twice. The system will respond by locking and unlocking the doors to confirm programming.
- Step 8: Repeat Step 7 for any additional remotes (up to three total).
- Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition. The system will perform a final series of door lock/unlock cycles to confirm completion.
Section 2: Programming the Transponder (Ignition) Portion of the Flip Key This procedure allows the vehicle to recognize the ignition chip within a new key. It requires two already-programmed keys. Note: The new key must be properly cut to turn in the ignition. Timing is essential—review all steps before beginning.
- Step 1: Insert the first programmed transponder key and turn it to the ON position. Wait at least one second (until the red key icon in the instrument cluster turns off), then remove the key.
- Step 2: Within 5 seconds, insert the second programmed key. Turn it to the ON position for at least one second but no more than five seconds. Then remove it.
- Step 3: Within 10 seconds, insert the new key and turn it to the ON position. Successful: The red key warning light will briefly illuminate and turn off.
Unsuccessful: The red key light will flash repeatedly. Remove the key, wait one minute, and repeat the steps.
Section 3: Programming a Smart Key (If Equipped) The smart key system on the 2011 Mazda CX-7 is not user-programmable. It must be programmed using factory-level diagnostic equipment.
Smart Key Programming Overview:
- Confirm Compatibility: Ensure the smart key is correct for the 2011 Mazda CX-7 and has not been registered to another vehicle.
- Arrange Professional Service: Contact a qualified technician or automotive service center with the appropriate diagnostic tools.
- Diagnostic Programming: The technician will connect to the vehicle’s onboard systems and perform key registration through the control module.
- Verification: After programming, all smart key functions—including lock/unlock, proximity entry, and push-button start—will be tested to ensure proper operation.
