2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport – Keyless Entry Remote Fob & Smart Key Programming
Standard Key or Remote Head Key Programming (Onboard Procedure) This process programs the ignition key portion only. For remote button functionality, follow the second section below.
Ignition Key Programming Steps:
- Step 1: Insert the first working key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position for 5 seconds (do not start the vehicle).
- Step 2: Turn the key to the LOCK position and remove it.
- Step 3: Within 30 seconds, insert the second working key and turn it to the ON position. Wait approximately 10 seconds until the immobilizer light begins to blink.
- Step 4: When the light starts blinking, turn the second key to LOCK and remove it.
- Step 5: Within 30 seconds, insert the new unprogrammed key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position. If programming is successful, the immobilizer light will remain solid for 3 seconds and then turn off. If an error occurs, the light will shut off immediately. Restart the procedure if necessary.
- Step 6: Repeat the steps above for each additional key. Remote Head Key Button Programming (Remote Functions) This procedure activates the lock/unlock buttons after ignition key programming.
Remote Programming Steps:
- Step 1: Gather all remotes to be programmed.
- Step 2: Using a working remote, press the UNLOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds.
- Step 3: While still holding UNLOCK, press and hold the LOCK button.
- Step 4: Release the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons in order within 10 seconds. The door locks will cycle, confirming entry into programming mode.
- Step 5: Within 60 seconds, program each remaining remote: Press both LOCK and UNLOCK simultaneously for 2 seconds. Release both buttons for 1 second. Press and release the UNLOCK button. Locks will cycle to confirm programming.
- Step 6: Repeat step 5 for each additional remote.
- Step 7: If no new remotes are programmed within 60 seconds, the vehicle exits programming mode automatically.
- Step 8: Test all remotes to confirm functionality. Smart Key Programming Procedure (Proximity Key System) Requires two recognized Smart Keys and one unprogrammed Smart Key.
Smart Key Programming Steps:
- Step 1: Open the driver’s door and leave it open for the entire procedure.
- Step 2: With the first Smart Key in your possession, turn the ignition to ON (do not start the vehicle).

- Step 5: Release the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons one after the other within 10 seconds.
- Step 6: With the second Smart Key, repeat the same process: press and hold UNLOCK, then LOCK, then release both.

- Step 8: If an error occurs, the buzzer will sound for 3 seconds.
- Step 9: To program another Smart Key, turn the ignition off, remove the key, and repeat from Step 1.
