2011 Scion xD Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Note: These instructions apply only to the remote (keyless entry) portion of your Remote Head Key. If your key includes a transponder chip, it must be cut and electronically programmed by a qualified technician. If the key is a non-transponder type, it only needs to be cut—no additional programming is required for ignition functionality.

Step-by-Step Remote Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Ensure the key is removed from the ignition.
  • Step 2: Open and unlock the driver’s door manually. All other doors, including the trunk, must remain closed throughout the process.
  • Step 3: Within 5 seconds, insert the key into the ignition and remove it twice.
  • Step 4: Close and then open the driver’s door two times.
  • Step 5: Insert the key into the ignition again and remove it.
  • Step 6: Close and open the driver’s door two more times.
  • Step 7: Insert the key into the ignition and leave it inserted.
  • Step 8: Close the driver’s door.
  • Step 9: Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine), then turn it OFF.
  • Step 10: Remove the key from the ignition.
  • Step 11: The door locks will cycle (lock and unlock) automatically, confirming the vehicle has entered remote programming mode.
  • Step 12: On the first remote, press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time for 1.5 seconds, then release both buttons.
  • Step 13: Immediately press and hold the LOCK button for 2 seconds, then release. The door locks will cycle once if programming was successful. If the doors cycle twice, the attempt was unsuccessful—repeat the previous step.
  • Step 14: To program additional remotes, repeat Steps 12 and 13 for each remote within the same session.
  • Step 15: Open the driver’s door to exit programming mode. The process is now complete.
