2011 Subaru Forester Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Notes: A maximum of four remote key fobs can be programmed in a single session. If equipped, deactivate the vehicle's alarm system before beginning. Each remote requires an 8-digit ID code, found either on the packaging (if new) or on a label inside the remote case (if used). Have this code ready before starting.
Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Ensure all doors and the rear hatch are fully closed.
- Step 2: Sit in the driver’s seat and close the driver’s door securely. Proceed to the next step without delay.
- Step 3: Within 15 seconds, insert the key and turn the ignition from LOCK to ON, then back to LOCK 10 times quickly. Do not start the engine. If performed correctly, the interior lights will flash and an audible tone will sound. This indicates the vehicle has entered programming mode. If no lights flash or tone sounds, exit the vehicle, close all doors, and begin again from Step 1.
- Step 4: Open and then close the driver’s door once. The audible tone will continue, confirming the system is ready to receive the ID code.
- Step 5: Using the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the driver’s door panel, enter the remote’s 8-digit ID code: Press the LOCK button the number of times corresponding to the first digit of the code. Then press the UNLOCK button once to move to the next digit. Repeat this process for all eight digits of the code.
- Step 6: After entering all eight digits, repeat the entire code entry sequence a second time in the same manner.
- Step 7: If both code entries are successful, the system will emit a confirmation chime lasting approximately 30 seconds, indicating the remote has been programmed.
- Step 8: To program another remote, repeat Steps 3 through 6 using that remote’s unique ID code.
- Step 9: If no additional remotes need to be added, remove the key from the ignition to exit programming mode. The process is now complete.
