2011 Subaru Impreza Remote Fob Smart Key Programming Instructions
Important Notice: These steps may seem complicated at first glance, but the process is simple once you understand the sequence. If you make a mistake, you can restart at any time without causing issues. Separate Remote: This procedure will program the remote buttons completely. Remotehead Key: This method only programs the remote functions. The key blade must still be cut and the transponder chip programmed by a technician for the vehicle to start.
Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Remove the remote’s back cover. Use a small Phillips screwdriver (for remotehead key) or a flat-blade screwdriver (for separate remote).
- Step 2: Locate and write down the 8-digit numeric ID code inside the remote. Use only the line with numbers—do not include any letters.
- Step 3: Ensure all doors and the trunk/hatch are completely closed.
- Step 4: Sit in the driver’s seat and close the driver’s door. Begin the next step immediately.
- Step 5: Insert the key and turn it from LOCK to ON 10 times within 15 seconds. Do not start the engine. The vehicle should respond with flashing lights and an audible tone, confirming entry into programming mode. Tip: If there is no sound or light, exit the vehicle and restart from Step 5.
- Step 6: Open and then close the driver’s door once. The alert tone should continue, confirming you’re still in programming mode.
- Step 7: Begin entering the 8-digit code using the driver’s side LOCK/UNLOCK door buttons: For each digit: Press the LOCK button the number of times that matches the digit. Press UNLOCK once to move to the next digit. After entering all 8 digits, press UNLOCK one final time.
- Step 8: Re-enter the same 8-digit code again using the same method. After entering the final digit the second time, a 30-second tone will sound, confirming the code was accepted. If the tone does not sound, or if more than five seconds pass between button presses, the system exits programming mode. Restart from Step 5.
- Step 9: If you have more remotes to program, repeat Steps 5–8 for each additional unit.
- Step 10: When finished, remove the key from the ignition. Programming is now complete.
- Step 11: Test all programmed remotes to verify correct function.
