2011 Subaru Outback Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Overview: The 2011 Subaru Outback includes a keyless entry system that allows new remotes to be programmed using their unique 8-digit transmitter codes. This system can store up to four remotes. Each transmitter must be entered individually, and unused or lost codes can be erased by overwriting them during the process. You’ll find the transmitter code on a label in the remote’s original packaging or inside the remote on the circuit board. Record this number before beginning. Before You Begin Make sure to locate and write down the 8-digit numeric code inside the remote (ignore any letters). Read all steps carefully in advance. Timing is critical and must be followed closely. Do not attempt programming in areas with other vehicles or remotes nearby to avoid accidental signal interference.
Remote Programming Process:
- Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat. Ensure all doors, trunk, and rear gate are fully closed.
- Step 2: Open and close the driver’s door once.
- Step 3: Within 45 seconds, open and close the driver’s door again.
- Step 4: Insert the key into the ignition. Turn it from LOCK to ON (dash lights on, do not start the engine), then back to LOCK—ten times within 15 seconds. A single confirmation tone will sound, followed by a buzzer and flashing interior lights. If these indicators don’t activate, return to Step 3 and try again.
- Step 5: Within 45 seconds, open and close the driver’s door one more time. A 30-second programming tone will begin, indicating the system is ready. Entering the Transmitter Code
- Step 6: Use the power lock switch on the driver’s door to input the 8-digit code: Press the LOCK button the number of times that matches the first digit. Press UNLOCK once to proceed to the next digit. Continue this process through all eight digits. After the last digit, press UNLOCK again to complete the first code entry.
- Step 7: Repeat the entire 8-digit code again using the same method. When you complete the second entry, a 30-second confirmation tone should sound if the codes match. If the code doesn’t match, if you pause more than five seconds between presses, or if an error tone occurs, restart the process from Step 4. Programming Multiple Remotes
- Step 8: To add more remotes (up to four), repeat Steps 4–7 for each additional unit using its own code. Completing the Process
- Step 9: When all remotes are programmed, remove the key from the ignition. The system will automatically exit programming mode.
- Step 10: Test all programmed remotes by locking and unlocking the doors to confirm successful setup. Erasing Previously Stored Remotes If you’ve lost a remote or want to clear old codes: Program four total remotes to overwrite memory. If only one remote is available, program it four times. With two remotes, program each twice. If you have three, program two once and the third twice. This ensures that only the remotes you possess are stored in the system. Important: During programming, ensure no other remotes are in use nearby. Unintended remotes could be registered to your vehicle.
