2011 Subaru Tribeca Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Notice: These instructions apply to programming remote functions only (lock/unlock). If using a Remotehead Key, the key blade must still be cut, and the transponder chip must be programmed separately to enable engine start. Be sure to carefully read through the entire procedure before beginning. Timing is critical, but the process can be repeated if necessary.

Preparation Steps:

  • Step 1: Identify your remote type: Separate Remote: Remove the rear cover using a flathead screwdriver. Remotehead Key: Unscrew the rear cover using a small Phillips screwdriver.
  • Step 2: Locate the 8-digit numeric ID code inside the remote. This number will be used for programming. Use only the line that contains numbers only, not letters. Write this number down for reference. Programming the Remote:
  • Step 3: Ensure all vehicle doors, including the trunk, are fully closed.
  • Step 4: Sit in the driver's seat and close the door securely.
  • Step 5: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it from LOCK to ON, then back to LOCK, a total of 10 times within 15 seconds. Turn only to the ON position where the dash lights illuminate—do not start the engine. If successful, the interior lights will flash, and a confirmation tone will sound. If no tone is heard or the lights do not flash, exit the vehicle and restart from Step 4.
  • Step 6: Open and close the driver’s door once. This confirms the vehicle remains in programming mode. Entering the Remote ID Code:
  • Step 7: Use the driver's side power door lock switch to enter the 8-digit code: Press the LOCK switch the number of times that corresponds to the first digit. Press UNLOCK once to advance to the next digit. Repeat this for all 8 digits. After the final digit, press UNLOCK one more time.
  • Step 8: Repeat the exact same process again: Re-enter all 8 digits using the LOCK/UNLOCK sequence. After the final digit is entered the second time, a tone will sound for 30 seconds, confirming successful programming. If the tone does not sound, or if an error occurs, restart from Step 5. Programming Additional Remotes:
  • Step 9: If you need to program more remotes: Repeat Steps 5 through 8 for each additional fob. Up to four remotes can be programmed to the system. Completion:
  • Step 10: Once all remotes have been programmed, remove the key from the ignition to exit programming mode.
  • Step 11: Test all remotes by: Pressing LOCK to ensure the doors lock. Pressing UNLOCK once to unlock the driver’s door, and a second time to unlock all doors and the trunk.
